Description

18-year-old Calli McRae, a beach sports enthusiast from Blackwater, Queensland, won a gold medal in the under-twenty-one mixed doubles category at the 2025 Commonwealth Rowing Association Beach Sprint Championships in Barbados. Despite only starting the sport a few months ago, McRaes natural talent and dedication led to her rapid progression. She and her partner, Samuel Forbes, secured first place after competing at the national championships in Sydney earlier this year. Coastal rowing, an extreme version of traditional rowing, combines rowing and running ability in challenging sea conditions. The sport is set to make its Olympic debut in 2028, with discussions underway for central Queensland to host events for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics. The Australian team had an outstanding performance in Barbados, winning six gold medals out of seven events.
