wow victim blaming and women hating is alive and real in these comments. I for one am amazed and overjoyed to hear a story about a woman defending herself and coming out on top. anyone who walks away feeling more disdain for the women in this story than the monster that ruined their lives is honestly a trash human.

all the talk about, watching walking dead, Dexter, and other shows to know what to do, really strikes me as ignorant.

Krisha Standifer I'm not sure you understand the word ignorant. a young woman likes a show and uses information from those shows to save her own life from a sociopath. How on earth could that be seen as ignorant.

I find it so sad, pathetic, and irritating that there are so many comments from people talking about the women in the story being stupid. Grow up. Don't make fun of victims. You can't judge someone's actions until you have been in the same position. Even then, everyone reacts differently. instead we should be acknowledging their strength and honestly to tell their story to the world. Praise her for fighting off her attacker and defending herself. There were so many awesome take aways from this story.

Rebecca Fuerbringer not being a troll, just expressing my opinion. Ii obviously did listen. to the podcast. it just struck me funny she said, " if there is ever a Zombie apocalypse then I will know what to do" gotta admit it's kind of funny, I'm not taking away what this brave young woman did as she fought off her attacker! I was cheering for her that she did. Im not the one calling other people who share their opinion names.

I'm glad they all made it out to the other side of this ridiculousness but I really worry about these people. They are like a bunch of lost puppies. Is there maybe a religious cult they can join? Power in numbers! 😂

I think what people forget is Debra was raised in a highly religious family that valued forgiveness as a way to be closer to God's moral law. She also was sheltered. She didn't have a lot of street smarts when it came to people like John. Plus, when you factor in she had a propensity to see only the good in people and she'd already been married numerous times so her self esteem was very low which made her very vulnerable to manipulation. People are at their most vulnerable when they fall in love, I think that's why it's hard to accept "wait, I got it wrong again?" Each time a relationship failed she took it as a defeat and a defect of herself. When she was in that mode she couldn't think logically "maybe I need to pick better men and take more time to get to know them." Furthermore, I think her tendency to be a hopeless romantic, the fact she had reached her 50s which caused her to fear dying alone and her living in a bubble were a recipe for disaster. I throughly enjoyed it and hope women who hear this won't ignore the warning signs. Finally, it's okay to be alone and it's okay to date however use caution when dating.

Francesca King For sure, religious programming doesn't exactly encourage critical thinking. Conformity is required to "belong" and so they have a more difficult time facing cognitive dissonance. Flattery and bullshit plays them like a violin. God gave them a brain. It's sad that they dismiss their intuition in order to have a nice "package" ti bring to church or display to the world. These are the type of women who entrust their children to the new step-daddy, who end up.molesting their kids. Then, they act surprised. Love bombing , and moving too fast too soon aee two of many signs if a narcissist.
