Description

Everyone wants to know where the coronavirus came from. In the absence of a clear explanation, several theories are circulating — including one, pushed by the Trump administration, that the pandemic started because of malpractice in a lab in Wuhan, China. But is that a secret the Chinese government is keeping, or a mystery no one knows the answer to? Guest: Julian E. Barnes, who covers national security for The New York Times. For more information on today’s episode, visit nytimes.com/thedaily.

Background reading:

  • Leaders in the intelligence community have said there is no indication the virus is man-made, but have yet to reach a conclusion on its origins. While many scientists say the virus most likely made the leap from an animal to a human in southern China, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and President Trump continue to link the outbreak to a government lab.
  • Some national security analysts are worried that pressure from senior Trump administration officials could distort assessments about the origin of the coronavirus and be used as a weapon in an escalating battle with China.

I'm not even a Republican and this podcast was pure hot biased garbage.

What's going on with so many Republicans trolling the comments section recently.

Interesting but disappointing with regard to the non-objective journalism on display here. The fact that these two haven't seen any info about it coming from the lab is irrelevant because obviously the secretary of state would have access to much more info than the reporters. I'm not even saying Pompeo is right, but making a logical jump from "We haven't seen convincing evidence" to "Pompeo hasn't seen convincing evidence" is only true if the assumption "The New York Times has as much access to info as Pompeo" which is obviously false.

For those of you who enjoy listening to the daily podcast... it is important to know that they are left-leaning. Nothing wrong with that, you just need to know where they're coming from. when they decide on a topic for a show, I am sure their focus is how to frame it in a way that makes those the right leaning either look like buffoons, conspiracy theorists, or just plain stupid and wrong. Don't be surprised. I enjoy listening to most of them... because it really is crazy how stupid they believe people are. I just laughed sometimes. but it is what it is. I don't get angry because I know who they are.

interesting summary framed in a way to lead the Listener towards a conclusion that those who blame a laboratory in China rather than a bat are conservative ideologues. consider this. those who want to steer you away from believing that this came from a Chinese lab are leftist idea logs trying to advance their agenda and bring down Trump. And the NYT, is the leading print publication fighting for the leftist agenda.
