They happen because the founder worked hard in the wrong direction.
I call it the “grit trap.” You’re pushing, building, staying up late — but ignoring a signal that something’s off: the market, the offer, the timing, or even the team.
In my work, I’ve seen talented founders fail not because they gave up… but because they refused to adjust.
They thought perseverance would solve misalignment. It doesn’t.
Smart grit is different from blind grit. One builds momentum. The other burns time.
