During this season of Lent we are working through the gospel of Mark. Powerful and direct, we read the actual words of Jesus. Finally, in chapter 4, his teaching is emphasized, and we read a series of “What the Kingdom of God is like” parables. The Parable of the Sower is our focus this week. Jesus tells the crowd of ‘outsiders’ that the Word of God has come to them. How will they respond? Will the Word be taken from them, or will it take root in the good soil? While three quarters of people take in the Word, only one quarter produce a crop of fruitfulness. Let’s be that group of people!
