The Illegal Trans Woman – Ep. 49: A Rebuke to MAGA, An Attack from the Courts
Description
It’s an Ellie’s Talking Head show, and we start with a just-delivered 6th Circuit Court of Appeals decision holding that an Ohio school district could not discipline students who claimed that their religious beliefs prevented them from according pronouns to transgender students that align with their gender identity. In other words, under the guise of “religious freedom,” kids now have the right to misgender trans kids regardless of the emotional harm that causes. From there, I discuss a U.S. Supreme Court ruling (via its shadow docket) that the State Department could require trans and nonbinary passport applicants to reflect the gender assigned at birth, rather than the gender with which they identify (in other words, if I was applying for a passport now, it would have an “M” on it instead of an “F”—talk about emotional harm!) In Random Acts, I talk about an incredibly kind note given to me about my voice when I discussed my new book at a local church.
