Description
A Chinese Emperor, obsessed with the beauty of his palace, discovers that a nightingale's song is considered the most beautiful thing of all. He brings the nightingale to court, but when a mechanical bird arrives, he favors it over the real one, which flies away. When the mechanical bird breaks and the Emperor falls deathly ill, the nightingale returns and sings, charming Death away and restoring the Emperor's health. The nightingale promises to sing for the Emperor every day, telling him of events in the country so that he can become a better ruler, but keeps their relationship a secret.
