Man, this choked me up at the end. What a terrible thing to do to someone simply for revenge. And not even to be around to see it. What's the point?! I feel so bad for this family.

I never cried at the end of a Dateline episode, but this one was so heartbreaking.

This guy got totally screwed. However everyone seems to be indignant that the police took the phone call from the victim seriously. I don't get that. Do you know how many cases a murder victim has called in their own murderer and the police have ignored it? We have all as a public have lost our minds over that. No, the problem here was that the police heard about the call and THEN completely ignored other evidence ... like financial evidence and physical evidence... that pointed elsewhere. I would throw out the phone call as evidence because the prosecutors never check phone logs for it so we don't know that it existed. the point that the phone call wasn't made to 911 but rather to the mother is also reason to throw it out. I would also throw out his alibi because family members will lie to you and someone coughing every 2 or 3 hours is not an alibi. Neither is leaving a disc running. But the financial records and the lack of phyisical evidence proving that this man was ever in that house were enough for me to exonerate the guy. But I'd also completely dismiss anything his cellmate had to say. 🙄 But those of you that are just dismissing the phone call...sorry, it has to be looked at. If it were not all together we would be ticked off by that. The issue is that the phone call in the end should have been thrown out by the jury. Listen, the real mistake here was the laziness of police that stopped investigating once they heard about the phone call. Had they investigated properly the phone call could have been dismissed as real evidence and this guy's life would never have been destroyed.

I knew what went down after listening to this for 15 minutes its crazy how evil Prosecutors and People can be. How do you not look into financial statements and how as a defense can you over look that. CRAZY!!!!

Lazy ass investigation, based solely on an alleged phone call. Wouldn't have been hard to check out Kathleen's financial situation.

Hard to fathom what the juries in these two trials were looking at and how they came to their decisions.

Why in the hell would you swab her hands for GSR and then never test them? And why would she call her mother instead of 911 like the lawyers pondered? Because she wanted to take him down and not the murder suicide come back to her.

Pretty convenient she makes a phone call saying Pete was in the house killing her husband and was going to kill her next. Can't question a dead person's phone call.
