The Poma Street murder [ Episode 1 - "X Marks the Spot" ]
Description
One of Italy's most famous cold cases started on August 7th, 1990, in a ritzy neighborhood not too far from St. Peter's square in Rome. Within the confines of a luxury apartment complex with a somewhat maze-like, sinister nature, a young girl by the name of Simonetta Cesaroni, has met her death. Her body shows stab wounds to the eyes, neck, chest, abdomen and groin. As she lies seminude and lifeless in the office where she worked 2 afternoons a week, her sister "Paula" (Paola Cesaroni) and Paula's boyfriend "Tony" (Antonello Barone) ride around looking for her, until they remember her boss, "Sal" (Salvatore Volponi) lives nearby. They decide to go ask him if he has any news of Simonetta, thereby triggering the grotesque sequence of events that still has many believing that the perpetrator is to be found among the city's finest dwellers, surrounded by the majestic architecture that still stands today at number 2, Poma street.
Make sure to stay until the end of the series, as I will discuss two very important updates that the Prosecutor's Office announced this year (2022), the first concerning new evidence which may finally lead to the killer, and the second regarding the very disturbing reasons why the investigation was conducted so poorly, a question the Anti-Mafia Special Commission has recently tried to answer.
