Description

Greek Philosophy, where the body is inferior to the soul and a resurrected body is foolishness, had taken over Corinth. So begins Paul’s 'if the dead are not raised' speech where, had Christ not been raised, all is vanity: our preaching, our faith, and our very lives. We are left, under Adam, spiritually dead in sin, under the judgement (wrath) of God. We are left with overwhelming anxiety, or unfulfilling hedonism, or nihilistic apathy. Yet, there is hope, a blessed assurance that Christ is raised from the dead, the first fruits of a new life. Christ bore the full judgement of God, representing us in our sin, and bearing the consequences of it (death), rising again to grant us eternal life. Now we are no longer slaves to sin, and we await a new resurrected body after death. In our lives, we must point to Jesus, the first fruits of a new life, who rose from the dead to restore us and reconcile us to a new life in Him.
