On February 4th, 1789, the 69 members of Congress elected George Washington as the United States’ first president. Since then, there have been a total of 43 people sworn into the office of the President of the United States. Grover Cleveland is the only president to have the honor of serving two non-consecutive terms, making him the 22nd and the 24th president.
