Description

In this series we are focusing on a very important aspect of workforce development, exploring a population known as the Untapped Workforce, which is comprised of the following:

  • opportunity youth - which are youth aged 16-24 not in school and not working
  • military veterans
  • persons with disabilities
  • second-chance individuals who may have a criminal history
  • non-english speakers and migrant families
  • semi-retirees

Why should we focus on the untapped workforce? Just as the title suggests--there are people in our communities ready and willing to contribute to the local economy in many different ways, and we as leaders can explore solutions to ensure there are no barriers to access for any of these groups (the simplicity of some of the solutions may surprise you)!

Many times, faulty assumptions and lack of awareness are the only barriers, so the more community leaders are informed and engaged, the more we can solve local workforce challenges.

In this episode we're talking with Rosalyn Martinez, College Assistance Migrant Program Director at Valdosta State University, exploring solutions for Latinx and Hispanic ESL and migrant families in our communities. Let's go!
