The WTF Presidency: Why We Can’t Normalize the Nonsense
Description
Every. SINGLE. DAY. Some new absurdity that we never could have imagined possible is yet again at our doorstep. And yes, we dodge, evade, parry and defend against many of them. But the needle continues to be pushed on what politicians will try.
The time it will take just to repair our country, never mind get it to where it needs to go, is generational at this point. My children’s, children’s children will be cleaning up this mess, if we save the world from actual destruction so that they can all be born.
And for the few conservatives who will happen to hear my message here I want to bring this point home to you, liberal politicians will take these sorts of unconstitutional and illegal strides too, but in service of their own agenda. Don’t be surprised when the Supreme Court does get expanded for instance the next time Democrats control congress and the White House. You know that Equal Rights Amendment that got passed decades ago, but not ratified by enough states in time and never actually adopted? Probably gonna go ahead & do that. Puerto Rico and DC? Both states. 4 new permanent Democratic Senators! Medicare for all! Guaranteed Paid parental leave! A federal ban on all right to work state laws. Raise the minimum wage federally!
Honestly, the fact that I try to come up with outlandish and offensive things the democrats could do if they governed like Trump does and all I can come up with is good things I personally would cheer for and that would help millions of Americans live a better, more productive and healthy life is telling isn’t it?
I am a progressive. I went and enjoyed hearing Senator Bernie Sanders speak this past weekend, and he and AOC are about as close as American politicians come to speaking my own beliefs and values. But I’m also a big fan of the American experiment & the constitution and I genuinely don’t like it when even my “team” breaks the rules and norms. It’s why I’ve been against the overuse of executive orders since the Clinton presidency and I was angry at President Obama for his drone use & bombing runs without authorization from congress.
When Trump is gone, and praise god he will be gone eventually, the more sane people that fill that office after him will surely have better intentions and better advisors, and they’ll do all they can to return to the rule of law & the checks and balances that are supposed to be built into our government to protect us from a person like Trump. But they’ll also be tempted to use that justification and righteous intention to move faster, and act more boldly than the law allows but WAS AND CONTINUES TO BE allowed for Trump.
“Well, HE did THAT, so it’s okay that I’ll do THIS to fix it! Just to fix what he did!!”
But then that never stops. Suddenly, the overreach and despotism is the norm, not the unimaginable and immoral shock to our collective systems that his every action continues to be.
This morning, TFG walked out on the White House lawn to speak to the press before heading to NATO to plead Vladimir Putin’s case for him, and said that “Iran and Israel had been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the f**k they’re doing.”
Disrespectfully, Mr. President, YOU’RE the one who doesn’t know what the f**k he’s doing. And the American people are overwhelmingly tired of it.
Here’s to the day when it’s over. Here’s to not normalizing this insanity.
