The discussion of Ohm's law for electrolytes by Jena's physicist - An interplay of computations and observation.
Update: 2012-06-08
Description
The talk will analyse the interrelations between the theoretical and experimental investigations of physicists at the University of Jena concerning the validity of Ohm’s law for electrolytes. Starting with some theoretical considerations which included as a main part some calculations and estimations Max Wien inferred the necessity to check this results by experiments. However, he could confirm the theory only qualitatively and failed in giving a detailed or quantitative confirmation because of the missing accuracy of the measurements. This was the beginning of intensive efforts to analyse the properties of electrolytes by calculations and measuring observations, leading to new theoretical insights about Ohm’s law. That process will be considered in some detail.
