Description

Today we're talking about toxic parents and family members, but everything here also applies to toxic relationships, so stick around if that speaks to you.

Loving someone doesn’t always mean having a relationship with them, just like forgiveness doesn’t always mean reconciliation. Reconciling, in many cases, only sets people up for more abuse. A significant part of healing comes with accepting that this is a part of life; there are some relationships that are so poisonous that they destroy one’s ability to be healthy and function best.

Our guest today is Dr. Sherrie Campbell. a licensed psychologist, nationally recognized expert, and inspiring author.

She clarifies how parents, adult children, siblings, grandparents, and in-laws can be toxic while giving direction on how to explain cutting ties to children and others who may not understand.

Today we will learn:The difference between toxic and non-toxic people and how to tell the differenceThe lifelong affect toxic relationships have on youHow to start building back your confidence in the aftermath

Love this podcast. Thank you. It always gives me insight and pause as to how I interact with my love one. However this guest sounded just very angry, and so certain about things. So quick to pigeonhole and to group disorders. She cannot possibly know if a toxic parent will be a toxic grandparent. And her arrogance of book sales; I can't help but wonder how many people have thought that she is toxic.

thank you so very much for the insight and love you send out into the world through your poscast! I am a new listener and resonate deeply with all of your episodes. I was born with toxic parents and now at 35 have finally made the choice to save myself and end tbe cycle of being in a 13yr toxic relationship. the last 7months of freedom haven't been easy but the saddness of it ending is much easier to handle then the pain of "being in it". I am proud of my progress and after listening to this episode am reassured that not only is true happiness possible but that I was not crazy, and that his behavior was disrespectful. and most importantly gained the strength to know that to finally let go of that rope is not selfish and I don't need to explain myself or give him one last good bye. THANK YOU

In middle school, one of my friends asked out this girl with a note but didn't put her name on it. someone asked the girl who it was and the first person that she could think of was me 🙄 Maybe it's because I had a locker next to her. People just kept coming up to me after class asking if I was a lesbian. Thinking back, why was it any of their business and why did it matter?
