Description

Are we simply the sum of our experiences? Or can we choose our own path? In this hour, TED speakers share stories of undergoing remarkable transformations despite extraordinary challenges. In a special updated interview, biophysicist Hugh Herr explains that in the coming decades, wearable robotics will allow humans to augment their physical capabilities. Other guests from the original 2014 episode include peace advocate Zak Ibrahim, model Geena Rocero, and criminal justice reform advocate Shaka Sengor.

"humans will take control of our own evolution " . yea, OK. it's pretty cute how superior we humans fashion ourselves.

great episode with exception of the gender issue. we will see that come to a major head in the coming years. identity is fluid, not gender. If you want to transition from a man to a woman, fine, but it does not make you a woman in the sense of a what makes a woman a woman. I have friends who are trans and have zero issue with it until that person thinks they have the right to go into sports on the woman side. That is quickly becoming evident on how bad of an idea that is. I believe her name is Fox and she is now a pro mma fighter and a trans gender woman. in one of her last matches, she not only won but she beat the biological woman so bad that she broke her ribs, which happens in mma obviously, but she also cracked her skull and put her into a coma. this is one of quite a few examples. this is where equality needs to stop with the trans community. They should never be allowed to fight for the gender they transition to, period.

Mr. Joe E. Public Well like I said, I feel any person should not only feel free to be who they want to be but also be a person with all the same freedoms but I do think there is a line in the sand. Sports being that line. Of course it can go without saying that a woman can beat a man in any given sport but that's not something you see on the professional level when it comes to contact sports. Any man who got in the ring with Mike Tyson knew damn well what they were getting into but that is absolutely not the case with Fox in the MMA ring. This is just one of a few examples. In fact FOX didn't even let it be known she was transgender because she felt it wasn't important to disclose and irrelivent to the fight. That is absolutely wrong. She layer did reveal she had transitioned after grossly beating her opponents. First off men are born with more bone density and when someone goes through the transition like Fox did and they start certain therapies such as estrogen, it solidifies that bone density even more so. So, if you've watched these fights and see how brutally bad Fox's opponents were beat, you'd see why Fox should've not only let it be known she is transgender but either fight in a different weight class or do not allow transgender women to fight women, it's not fare fighting at all. Men and woman are different in obvious and not so obvious biological ways and when it comes to certain sports, equality is a completely different story.

TheRealMrPink I wasn't sure of the direction of your thought until it became adament that you do not believe a transgender individual is the true gender they have always known themselves to be. So, "they"... because it is clear that you see transgender individuals as a separate entity, should endure division if he/ she decides to enjoy sports. Mike Tyson brutally demolished many of his biological male counterparts. There are biological women that are able to and have dominated males on the court, in the ring, etc... so what about those instances. As well, once one deems it appropriate to divide because of one reason... the snow ball effect is bound to begin. yet, I understand exactly where you're coming from. now how does one address concerns of some while simultaneously acknowledging the freedoms of others?
