Description

On the morning of August 21, 1996, Dennis Appleby left his Moline, Illinois home to head to work, leaving behind his 11 year old daughter, Trudy, to spend the summer day at home.  Around 9:30 am, a neighbor saw Trudy with a man who appeared to be in his 20’s, with dark curly hair,  wearing a baseball cap.  The unidentified man was driving a silver or gray four door sedan.  Dennis came home from work that evening and was surprised to find his daughter wasn’t home.  He called his neighbors and some of Trudy’s friends but she wasn’t with any of them.  That is when Dennis called the police to report Trudy missing.  Trudy’s case went unsolved for more than 20 years but now, investigators believe they know who is responsible for Trudy’s disappearance.

If you have any information regarding the disappearance of Trudy Appleby, please call the Moline Police Department at 309-524-2140.

I believe she left with someone she knew and trusted and I believe it was the son in law David. He is a registered sex offender and she was friends with his daughter. He knew she would be home alone. I pray he speaks up and at least tell the family where her body is. This story is so heartbreaking. I pray the family gets answers.

Dad with a wild past and scumbag sex offending friends at first suspected the mother and her family. At first that infuriated me beyond words. Now I think it could have been wishful thinking on his part. If her mom was involved in her disappearance at least she would be with people who loved her. But I think I have had about enough of parents showing bad judgement and anti- child priorities, and maintaining contact with scummy sex offender friends is on this spectrum. I have survived to the age I am, and have watched far too much true crime, so this is by far not the only case of a child being targeted because of the parent's terrible judgement and indifference to priorities.

Did I miss what happened to her dad? Why wasn't he interviewed for this and the uncle didn't mention wanting closure for her dad.
