Uber to launch a premium robotaxi service in Waymo's turf of San Francisco
Update: 2025-10-29
Description
Uber, Nuro, and Lucid Motors are teaming up to launch a premium robotaxi service in San Francisco in 2026, using fully electric Gravity SUVs equipped with self-driving tech from Nuro. This move marks a significant step for all three companies, with Uber investing $300 million in Lucid and committing to buying at least 20,000 Gravity SUVs. The service will directly compete with Waymo, which already offers robotaxi rides in several cities, including San Francisco. The partners are currently building and testing a fleet of robotaxis, aiming to have around 100 test vehicles on the streets before the launch.
