Publisher's Summary:
Through Penelope's eyes we understand the experience of thousands of girls who are kidnapped and become statistics of human trafficking. With the courageous intervention of a young girl, she escapes and ends up living with other children in the Teguciligapa city dump. Her hero is Ulysses, a Nez Perce boy raised in the rugged Wallowa Mountains in Eastern Oregon. He and his six brothers and their Beauceron dog have many adventures and are hunted by a monstrous bear. Ulysses and Penelope fall into a sweet teenage romance. When Ulysees is sent to Southeast Asia in 1968, his quest to win back his true love takes him through the horror of Vietnam, as well as the struggles of professional football and the Olympics. Penelope and her son Telemachus are left alone to work towards the miracle of US citizenship, all the while avoiding the retribution of the international gang to whom she once was a slave.
A bold and deeply personal novel about unthinkable real life drama. You will be surprised and inspired while you gain new insights into human trafficking and immigration through this timeless story of indomitable love.

Members Reviews:
Captivating and inspirational
I love this book. I was captivated by the story from the first page. I love the uniqueness of the format with family gathered around the fire to hear stories of the past. This book deals with so many pertinent social issues that become shockingly real through the pages. It's a story of love and of overcoming. It's entertaining yet thought provoking and I highly recommend it. It's one of those books you don't want to end.

Ulysses Dream is a wonderfully told story that blends and honors diverse cultures
Ulysses Dream is a wonderfully told story that blends and honors diverse cultures, beliefs, generations and genders. The author paints a beautiful picture of nature and a man's connection to the natural world around him in one chapter, and then goes on to describe a "no holds barred" scene of violence and destruction in the next. At the center of the story is an ongoing struggle between forces of good and evil, and our imperfect way of confronting these forces; both around us and within us... and in the end our hero(s) find peace in the only true thing that matters.

Amazing
I am not sure i even have the words. This a book about a proud people holding on to their heritage and their belief in Christ. As a Jew reading this book was very unique for me. I felt deep love and respect for the characters. I tasted evil and witnessed hope. I could not put this book down. The writing was honest and raw and powerful. Read thus book. It matters! Ellen Brazer author of The Wondering Jew My Journey into Judaism.

Romance story
Although fiction, characters, names, and places are based on people in the Author's life. I was at the "Hog" wedding as the young Pastor realized what he had said. A good story, could use a bit more editing to earn more stars.

Wonderful Story
Fantastic story about the resiliency of the human spirit and how goodness can overcome evil. It also opened my eyes to the atrocities of the war in Vietnam and the fate of those who were involved in this conflict. If you enjoy reading about overcoming the harshness of life, you will love this book.
