VICTOR FRENCH'S CHILDREN REMEMBER
Update: 2024-12-05
Description
We’ve entered the month of December, which means that holiday celebrations are
under way and Little House’s 50 th Anniversary year will soon enter the history books – or
will it? The show premiered in September of 1974, so the Anniversary year rolls on.
More on that to come in later shows.
One of the things we’ll remember about this December 5 episode of the podcast is that
Alison and Dean did it without the support of our very special host, Pamela Bob, who
Zooms in each week from Brooklyn, NY. We missed her and we can tell you today that
Pamela is fine, but we can also say that the reason she wasn’t with us on Thanksgiving
gives us the opportunity to say thanks for her swift return. We’ll leave Pamela to share
the details of her Thanksgiving absence as she chooses.
In the meantime, we are deeply thankful for our Bonnethead family, who allow us to
connect and continue the Little House Love that began with the premiere of Little House
so many years ago.
Today we’re very excited to welcome the children of a man who was there right from
the start of the Little House adventure early in 1974. We are speaking of Victor French,
Little House’s beloved Mr. Edwards. Two of Victor’s three children, Tracy Hall and her
older brother, Victor Allen French (not a Junior, BTW) were in town to take part in
2024’s final Little House on the Prairie tours of Big Sky Movie Ranch on December 1. The
day before the tours Alison and Dean welcomed Tracy and Victor into the studios of
UBNGo in Burbank. It was a wonderful conversation about their unforgettably talented
dad that focused on his portrayal of Isiah Edwards, the transforming power of the role,
his passion for the craft of acting, and his children’s remembrances of Victor as a very
special dad.
We also heard about Victor and Tracy’s commitment to their dad’s creative legacy; they
have a new online store (see below) and are working on the publication of his theories
of acting titled, A Matter of Choice. If you worked with Victor or loved his work on stage
and screen, we think A Matter of Choice is a “must-read.”
For our Patrons we will continue with Tracy and Victor focusing on their gleeful playtime
with their dad that made every day in the French house a kind of laughing, screaming
Halloween adventure. Those of us who worked with Victor can totally relate to his extraordinary ability to make us laugh, cry, or scream as the circumstances evolved
during so many wonderful scenes.
A SPECIAL NOTE FOR THE HOLIDAYS (Written by Pamela):
Little House on the Prairie is at the heart of what so many are most grateful for, not just
because of the timeless stories it told, but because of the lasting impact it has had on all
of us. The show brought families together, fostering a sense of community and shared
values that transcend generations. It taught us about resilience, love, and the
importance of finding gratitude even in the most challenging times. For many of
us, Little House was more than just entertainment—it was a source of comfort,
inspiration, and connection to a simpler, yet deeply meaningful way of life. It has shaped
how we view family, community, and the world around us, and continues to remind us
to appreciate the little things in life. Today, as we gather with loved ones, let us
remember these values as a country, a community, as human beings.
