My style of mixing was heavily influenced by Chicago's legendary Hot Mix 5 as heard on WBMX ... "Ain't No Jive Dance Party"
In 1985, I would take a boombox that you could record through a pinhole mic on the radio, so I put the boombox in front of the TV at midnight to record my 1st mixes, and that's how I learned about house music - WBMX/WGCI late night on cable TV after midnight ...then I saw the Asians at Symbols clothing store and asked how they get WBMX/WGCI all the time downtown Rockford, then they schooled me :) went home, hooked the cable up to an antenna straight to momma's stereo unit, and recorded the mixes every weekend growing up in Rockford, IL.
