No one escapes suffering. All of us will suffer in our lives. We’ll experience grief, hardship, betrayal, disease, and ultimately death. Knowing that we will suffer causes many of us to worry, to feel anxious, to be afraid of the suffering we will experience. But in Jesus’ second letter to the churches, he gives us this encouragement: “Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer.” Then he provides three powerful and compelling reasons why we do not need to fear future suffering.
