WPH #534: Phil IVEY!!!!!! [Why He’s STILL The BEST]
Description
There are countless stories, pictures and videos of Phil Ivey proving to the world why he will probably go down as the greatest to have ever played poker. Today, you will witness one of these tales in which Ivey cements his godlike status once more after he puts Ramin Hajiyev into the blender on the river during a Triton Poker stop in Jeju, South Korea. Can Hajiyev find the hero call or will Ivey’s legendary bluff get through?
When you have the range and the nut advantage in a hand, it is advised to play your hand aggressively by betting more frequently. An example of this is if the board runs out low when defending from the big blind versus an under the gun open.
Phil Ivey ‘The Tiger Woods of Poker’, or ‘RaiseOnce’ on PokerStars, is an American professional poker player and a regular at the highest stakes tournaments and cash games all around the world. He has over $46,300,000 in live tournament earnings, putting him in the top 11 on the all-time money list. He has 11 World Series Of Poker (WSOP) bracelets (only Phil Hellmuth has more). Triton Poker was founded in 2015 by Paul Phua and Richard Yong; their aim was to attract a healthy mixture of recreational poker players and seasoned poker professionals. They envisioned Triton as a series of poker events providing excellent entertainment value for audiences passionate about poker. Some of the most famous poker players to have appeared at Triton events have been Phil Ivey ‘RaiseOnce’, Tom Dwan ‘Durrr’, Patrick Antonius ‘The Finn’, Michael Addamo ‘imluckbox’, Chris Brewer, Jason Koon ‘JAKoon1985’, Tony G, Dan Cates ‘Jungleman’, Doug Polk ‘WCGRider’, Stephen Chidwick ‘stevie444’, Linus Loeliger ‘LLinusLLove’, Isaac Haxton ‘philivey2694’, Mikita Badziakouski ‘fish2013’, Timofey Kuznetsov ‘Trueteller’ and many more.
This was during the Triton Jeju Series at the Landing Casino, Shinhwa World – Jeju, South Korea; it had 19 poker tournaments ranging with buy-ins from $15,000 up to $150,000 in No Limit Hold’em (NLHE), Pot Limit Omaha (PLO) and Short-Deck (SD) and ran from March 5th – March 21st, 2024.
$30,000 – 2024 Triton Poker Series Jeju Event #5 – Results
1st: Adrian Mateos ‘Amadi17’ – Spain – $1,175,000
2nd: David Peters ‘SilentAssassin’ – U.S.A – $790,000
3rd: Yulian Bogdanov – Bulgaria – $557,000
4th: Seth Gottlieb ‘SmileThHero’ – U.S.A – $452,000
5th: Joao Vieira – ‘Naza114’ – Portugal – $358,000
6th: Ramin Hajiyev – Azerbaijan – $271,500
Preflop:
Phil Ivey raises to 160,000 with KJ of clubs from the cutoff. Ramin Hajiyev 3-bets to 450,000 from the button holding AKo. After the blinds fold, Ivey calls with his suited broadway cards and they head to the flop.
Flop – 6s 4h 3c
The low flop misses both players completely. Ivey checks with his two overcards and a backdoor flush draw. Hajiyev fires a standard continuation bet of 275,000 with his big slick which Ivey calls out of position.
Turn – 5h:
The 5 of hearts brings in a four-liner, meaning any three or seven would make a straight. Neither Ivey nor Hajiyev improves on this card and they both decide to check.
River – 7s:
When the 7 of spades hits the river, both players are playing the seven-high straight on board and will chop the pot if they both get to showdown. However, Ivey attempts to scoop the entire pot and moves all-in for 1,285,000. Will arguably the G.O.A.T. of poker get this epic bluff through, or will Hajiyev figure out Ivey’s antics and make the hero call to chop the pot? Stay tuned to the end of this poker video to see what happens!
