“Friends will take you, but not bring you back.” Growing up in a Trini home these words are drilled into your head. At least that was my experience. I remember the first time my mom said those words to me, and I didn’t understand. As I got older, these words became pearls to me and today as I look out onto the world, I see these words ring true. Do we really know the people we call our friends. Did we ignore the first signs of betrayal, because well “that’s my bestie.” We tend to turn a blind eye to the people who we love, refusing to believe and accept the worst about them.
