Softbank is one of the biggest phone and internet service providers in Japan. I think this is important to better understand the WeWork scheme. In Japan, wifi is not common in public places like cafés and food joints, even in urban locations such as Tokyo. Also, private space is a highly valued commodity, more than it is in the US and so there are many companies like WeWork that run successfully, particularly in rural settings. Thus, it occurs to me that the fact that this WeWork idea was so absurdly overfunded has also somewhat to do with Softbank not fully understanding how this business model couldn't be directly translated to the US but rather had to be modified in order to succeed. It was an interesting podcast. Nice work!
