Short Term Forecast. Interior Showers Will Dissipate, Followed By Decreasing Clouds. Lingering isolated showers over Lake, Orange and Osceola Counties will produce a few brief downpours before dissipating later this evening. Expect skies to gradually clear overnight, with temperatures dropping into the lower to middle 70s areawide by sunrise Wednesday.
Hazardous Weather Outlook. This hazardous weather outlook is for east central florida. Day one. Today and tonight. Thunderstorm impact. The east coast sea breeze will initiate late this morning and push inland, colliding with the west coast sea breeze in the mid to late afternoon. This will produce scattered shower and thunderstorms today, mainly over interior areas. Storms that develop today will be capable of producing dangerous lightning strikes and wind gusts up to 50 mph. Whenever thunder is heard or a lightning strike observed, move indoors immediately. Flood impact. Slow moving showers and thunderstorms this afternoon may lead to locally heavy rains up to 2 inches in a short period of time. This may cause ponding of water on roadways and localized flooding in poorly drained areas. Marine thunderstorm gust impact. Scattered thunderstorms that develop along the sea breeze collision this afternoon will be capable of producing wind gusts over 35 knots, impacting lakes across the interior. Some thunderstorms may push to the immediate Atlantic coast this afternoon along additional outflow boundaries. Mariners should be prepared to seek safe harbor when storms threaten. Fire weather impact. A Moderate to High fire danger will be present today. Wind shifts and increase in wind speeds associated with thunderstorm outflows and the sea breeze may cause any existing fires to spread more easily. As we transition to the wet season, lightning strikes may start new fires. Days two through seven. Thursday through tuesday. Afternoon and evening thunderstorms along the sea breeze collision will continue tomorrow, producing dangerous lightning strikes and gusty winds. Friday and into the weekend, higher moisture across the area will lead to increased rain and thunderstorm chances across east central FL. A moderate to high fire weather danger will be present through this weekend. Lightning strikes from increased chances for thunderstorms may spark additional fires. Spotter information statement. Spotter activation should not be needed today and tonight.
