What has been the impact of the 2019 "Fair Share" deal?
Update: 2024-09-06
Description
Rebecca Mowbray and Paul Rioux from the Bureau of Governmental Research join Newell to talk about the 2019 “Fair Share” deal that directs new tourism dollars to streets, drainage, and other infrastructure in New Orleans. At the deal’s five-year mark, BGR analyzed its impact, tracking the revenue generated and where it went. They found that the deal is fulfilling its promise of providing substantial recurring revenue for essential infrastructure improvements ($27.6 million in 2023) at little or no cost to local ratepayers or taxpayers. A citizen advisory board provides strong oversight of spending by the Sewerage & Water Board, which receives the lion’s share of the revenue.
