What’s Love got to do with it? - Week 1
Description
God, Love and Marriage
1st John 3:14 (NIV) 14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love each other. Anyone who does not love remains in death
1. God created Marriage in the beginning!
Genesis 2:18 (NIV) 18 The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”
Genesis 2:20-25 (NIV) 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals. But for Adam no suitable helper was found. 21 So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man 23 The man said,“This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.” 24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh. 25 Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.
Genesis 1:27-28 (NIV) 27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. 28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.
Genesis 1:31 (NIV) 31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.
*God’s first marriage included a ____________ _________ between _____ and __________!
*In the first marriage there was anointed in ___________ versus ________________!
2. Jesus confirmed the beauty of Marriage!
Ephesians 5:25 ,31-32 (NIV) 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her. 31 “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.” 32 This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church.
Mark 10:4-9 (NIV) 4 They said, “Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away.” 5 “It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law,” Jesus replied. 6 “But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’ 7 ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, 8 and the two will become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two, but one flesh.
9 Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”
Ephesians 3:17 (NLT) 17 Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.
Hebrews 13:4 (NIV) 4 Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.
1st Corinthians 13:4,13 (NIV) 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
What God has put _____________, let no man _____________!
