Description

World Breastfeeding Week takes place from 1 to 7 August 2022. South Africa has one of the lowest rates of exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) for infants from 0 to 6 months on the continent. At a rate of less than 32% in 2016, it is unlikely that the country can meet the Who's (World Health Organisation's) global target of a 70% EBF rate by 2030.

In line with international codes, the country has regulations in place to protect breastfeeding and to limit the formidable marketing powers of infant formula producers. So, what more needs to be done? To discuss this further we are now joined by Maria Van Der Merwe, who is the president of the Association for Dietetics In SA.

President, Association For Dietetics In SA, Maria Van Der Merwe speaks on the matter.
