Description

For the last episode in our You 2.0 series, we bring you a favorite conversation with Harvard researcher Dan Gilbert. He explains why we're bad at predicting our future happiness, how that affects our decision making, and why we're actually happier after making a decision that feels irrevocable.

I found this not ring true to me. In college a handful of times I took classes based on good reviews, I hated them all. I have gone to movies based on high recommendations, hated them. I think you have to find someone with similar tastes. We all aren't the same.

How do we know that the people assessing their actual change in retrospect are actuate? There is bias in both directions - forecasting ahead and assessing the past. How does that affect the results if the research? This can be due to a bias of self-perception or due to the actual change the person had undergone. In addition, there is the problem of calibrating one person's assessment to another's. What I think of as a significant change may not be viewed as significant by sometime else.
