byte 12: creating wearable art with Sarah O’Rourke
Description
Recorded 20 Aug 2020 - Award winning Irish Millinery Designer Sarah O’ Rourke founded Saraden Designs in 2016. Sarah began Saraden Designs with a vision of creating unique millinery pieces which really capture the eye of the audience.
Sarah has an extensive background having received a degree from IADT Dun Laoghaire in Visual Arts Practice Sculpture. Her work is often referred to as pieces of wearable art, which is a term she openly welcomes. With her background in Fine Art it isn’t difficult to see where this term has been drawn from. Year to year it is evident in the designs that Sarah has become more experimental and confident in her work and is not afraid to take risks. Her work has been described as ‘brilliantly innovative’ by Hotpress Magazine.
Sarah has a unique selling point, all the fabric used in her designs has been handmade by Sarah and is called Saraden Fabric. This is very much Sarah’s niche and is what sets her apart from other milliners. In 2019 Sarah became part of Fashion Revolutions Sustainable Fashion. It is an important event as it questions who made your clothes??
Saraden cut off fabrics from each design are reworked into other designs, meaning there is no waste. The line of production can also be traced as it is all done in-house by Sarah herself. https://www.saradendesigns.com/
