Description

You can do all the “healthy” things and still feel like something is shifting.

Your labs may look normal. Nothing is dramatic enough to earn a diagnosis. But your sleep has changed. Your blood pressure or cholesterol is creeping up. Your body responds differently to food or exercise. Weight is harder to manage. Muscle and strength are quietly changing.

That uneasy space between “everything looks fine” and “I know something is different” is a big part of why I created Healthspan on Her Terms and why I practice medicine the way I do.

I’m Dr. Sheri Erwin, a nurse practitioner, educator, and integrative clinician, and I’m also a woman who has lived through perimenopause and into menopause.

In this more personal episode, I share why I practice with one foot in conventional medicine and one foot in integrative care, and why I don’t believe women should have to choose between the two.

We talk about the changes that can begin years before a diagnosis, including disrupted sleep, rising blood pressure, changing cholesterol and glucose patterns, stubborn body-composition changes, and the gradual loss of muscle and bone. I also explain why conventional medicine is essential for safety and disease treatment while prevention sometimes requires us to pay attention to trajectory before a number officially crosses a diagnostic threshold.

And we talk about what healthspan actually means to me.

It is not perfect biomarkers.
It is not chasing someone else’s “optimal” ranges.
And it is definitely not turning your health into a second job.

It is building enough strength, metabolic health, bone health, cardiovascular health, and resilience that future you can travel, carry her own suitcase, recover from setbacks, stay engaged in her life, and keep making plans.

You’ll also hear how I think about using the right tool for the right woman, whether that is lifestyle medicine, hormone therapy when appropriate, thoughtful testing, or medications such as GLP-1s, while protecting muscle, lean mass, and bone health along the way.

If this conversation helps you feel less alone and more clearheaded about what may be changing, subscribe to Healthspan on Her Terms, share this episode with a woman who needs to hear it, and leave a review so more women can find the show.

And I’d love to know: What was the first change that made you think, “I don’t feel like myself anymore”?
