For nearly three decades, Chris Caggs has been one of Australia’s most recognisable voices in Hip Hop, RnB, Dance, and EDM broadcasting. Aged 48, Chris is a veteran Radio DJ, Music Programmer, and Podcaster whose career spans 16 permanent radio stations and syndication across 200+ community stations nationwide through the Community Radio Network (ComRad Satellite). His signature show, Shakedown Radio, continues this legacy—delivering the hottest RnB, Hip Hop, Dance, House, and EDM from Australia and around the world. Chris’ radio journey began in July 1998 on Pump FM 99.3FM Sydney, Australia’s first Hip Hop & RnB community station. Co‑hosting with Mista‑C, he helped shape Sydney’s urban music sound as Pump FM evolved into Dance Radio 99.3FM and later relaunched as Dance FM 94.5FM in August 2000. Later in 1998, Chris joined DJ‑FM 87.6FM, a 24/7 dance station serving Sydney’s Inner City and CBD under the Roberts Media Group. Working alongside Frank Chiment, Antonio Avati, Joe Avati, Susie Stapleton, Dave Einfield, Andre Waitsman, Joe Corte, Rob Brizzi and more, he contributed to a powerhouse lineup supported by Central Station Records, Telstra, Carlton & United Breweries, Noizenet, Pulse Music, SBA Music, and marketing lead Rebecca Tynan. From October 1999, Chris joined Groove FM 96.9 Sydney, hosting breakfast and weekend shows and contributing to music programming under Darren Leigh, Mike Scott, and Fabrizio Vilardo. He continued with the network during its May 2000 broadcast period on Groove FM 94.5, expanding his on‑air presence and shaping the station’s dance and urban identity. Chris returned again for a further broadcast period on Groove FM 94.5 from December 2000 to January 2001, helping define the station’s summer programming. During these years he worked with Australian media personalities including Andrew G (Channel [V], The Bachelor, The Masked Singer), Bessie Bardot, Rene Rivkin, DJ Nino Brown, Georgina Reed, Sam Boutros, Natasha Zuvela (MTV), Yvette Duncan (MTV), Zoe Naylor (MTV), and more. I'll host and interview an iconic Texas songwriter each podcast which we'll tape the 3rd Sunday of each month. Gary P. Nunn, a Texas legend as a songwriter and performer who calls Marble Falls home, agreed to be our first guest. He talked about the early days of the Texas outlaw movement, The Lost Gonzo Band, and his songs which have been recorded by the greats like Willie Nelson and Chris Stapleton. One part of the podcast mission is to remember the greats who were part of the Marble Falls musical legacy. Montessori school cofounded by Willie Nelson and his wife, Annie, first at his ranch in Spicewood and later moved to Marble Falls. Burnet County is the birthplace of Oscar J. Fox, composer of popular cowboy songs like "Old Paint," "The Chisholm Trail," and "The Hills of Home," The community was also home to Floyd Tillman. I had the honor and the pleasure of getting to know Floyd Tillman beginning in 1987, when we co-hosted Floyd Tillman's Pickin' in the Park in my hometown of Marble Falls / Highland Lakes Area. Several in my community have organized to keep alive his legacy by creating a songwriters group. Yes, he's a member of the CMA Hall of Fame. We'll meet the 3rd Sunday of each month at Brass Halland tape a blog on songwriting and hold a songwriter's open mic (Songwriter's Meeting, Blog Taping and Open Mic). We'll create a listening room environment with no football games on the screen and nobody shooting pool. Stapleton’s career began as a songwriter, a path that allowed him to develop his craft in the competitive Nashville industry. Signed to Sea Gayle Music, he quickly became one of the most sought-after songwriters in town. Over his career, Stapleton has written or co-written over 170 songs, including chart-toppers like “Never Wanted Nothing More” for Chesney and “Drink a Beer” for Luke Bryan.
