Since Earth has survived for over 4.5 billion years, why should we consider any need to protect Earth now—assuming we can? She has survived cosmic forces, meteor impacts, volcanic eruptions, ice ages, mass extinctions and so much more. By at least 3.5 billion years ago life began on Earth and has survived through the ages in one form or another. “Life” has endured. So what is different now that would bring up the question of protecting Earth? Consider one answer: human needs.
