Description

Beyond Parenting is the podcast for parents sharing the ridiculous, the incredible, the mental load and utter exhaustion. We really are in it together. This is a parenting podcast with a difference: Our mission is to support other parents getting rid of those guilty feelings and having a good laugh in the process. You don't have to feel isolated and alone on this journey any more. Plug us into your ear holes each week for a smile inducing bursts of joy, with a few practical ideas in there for good measure.

Beyond Parenting the podcast about the things we are learning and becoming the best human who happens to be a parent we can be.

I'm your host, Beth Hardy, I am a home educating mum to 2 Neurodiverse kids and 1 Neurotypical kid who goes to school. I have worked as a school teacher, baby signing instructor, Hypnobirthing Instructor and presently as Life & Parent Coach and Zumba Instructor. My favourite things to do are dancing, dancing and when the feeling catches me, I love to crochet. I'm starting this podcast after spending years with podcasts in my ears to keep me company on those long days with the kids at home, when I needed a bit of adult company.
Everyone's journey on this parenting ride is so unique and different, but what binds us together is that our multifaceted lives bring us new challenges to navigate.

TW: Foster Care / Child Abuse / Domestic Abuse / School SystemThis week's podcast delves into the world of the foster care system and critically the support structures which simply aren't there for kids transferring to adulthood. Where is the care after abuse? Where is the therapy? Where is the training on understanding relationships? The system let Jane down over and over again, and she is determined to do her best to not let anyone down on her watch!Jane doesn't hold back, and gives us an intimate portrayl of her life with her daughter and how they got through, and mostly battled through the system. They are not set or settled, but Jane has grown so much through her experiences and used them to enhance the life she has created for her and her daughter.Jane says, "As a parent coach, my passion is to support parents to grow to achieve the best outcome for their children and to become the best parents they can be. I have a consultancy and training business in childcare and education. One of my expertise is helping parents to bond more, understand and bridge the behaviour issues with their children. I do this with 121 mentoring, parent group coaching community, mini masterclasses and online supportive live programmes.  I am a single parent of a 16-year-old daughter who has had challenging behaviour (though I am glad to say it is calmer down lol) My mission is to help parents to understand their children so they can enjoy parenting."Launch dates: I am opening my doors to my first parent group coaching community. For the first 20 founding members it will be £10 a month. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/janemillerparentcoachTik tok: https://www.tiktok.com/@janemillerparentcoach Hosted on Acast. TW: Anti-Vaccination / COVIDThis week we are joined by the incredible Melena Carissa, who shares her experiences of choosing not to vaccinate against COVID in a country where the rules were so strict that people had to leave their jobs in droves, and kids were forced to miss out on sports, and using any public building. This is not an advocation piece about Vaccination or Anti-Vaccination, this is a conversation about CHOICE, and how that sits in juxtaposition with mandatory vaccinations. Melena is not part of the anti-vax movement, but she is certainly wanting to share with you how she balanced such a tricky situation, with her family's needs at the heart. We go on to explore how she has developed and upheld her boundaries, particularly with her parents, as she has unlearned the programming of how she was parented. This episode has an extra treat, as my youngest child joins us part way through as he needed a time being comforted.Melena is developing incredible resources to support parents listening to their kids and supporting them as individuals. She can be found at All the hearts on InstagramI hope you enjoy it, and it gives you some food for thought. TW: Mental health issuesIn this Podcast episode we meet Sarah Page, a single parent working through the myriad challenges of early parenthood. we hear how she struggled with her mental health at the beginning of her journey and also recognised that her relationship with her husband was not serving her. We dig into the challenges she faced and overcame, and how she and her ex are working through the niggles and challenges of co-parenting as a team. It was great to hear this untold story and see the strategies she used.Sarah first wanted to create something special in the depths of early motherhood, when she realised she had lost some spark for life & wanted to meet new friends outside of baby groups! She decided that thing was called Tassie, which means ‘cup’. She named it this because you can’t pour from an empty cup - so come and fill yours, do something for YOU, make friends and get inspired. Sarah is just working on planning meet-ups, events and retreats so watch this space!  Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
TW: Mental health issues, the school system and we swear a bit. This episode we dive into Laura’s world, world being the operative word, as she has 3 kids, and they are travelling the world “unschooling” her kids. This radical shift from the norm came after a mental health episode forced her and her husband to really think out of the box about their lives.Laura is a worldschooling, unschooling mum of three from the UK, currently living in Vietnam with her family. Her and her husband set off on their Worldschooling journey in late 2019 (little did they know what was coming next!) after realising at the ages 35 and 39 that their current circumstances, whilst safe and secure, did not light them up.Laura mentors other Cycle-Breaker Parents who had tough upbringings and are committed to being the gentle, empowering parent they always dreamed they would be. Her location-independent business www.cyclebreakerparents.com enables her to support her family, whilst fulfilling her soul’s purpose of helping other parents and families to heal and thrive. The Linklaters have a blog - www.linklatersontheloose – in which they chronicle their geographical journeys around Vietnam (and soon beyond) and philosophical discussions about the nature of education and childhood. In this podcast I we meet Moon Sade, she disusses her challenging experiences witnessing her son be overlooked repeatedly by theschool system for support, and didn't receive a diagnosis until part way through the secondary system. She goes on to tell us how she changed her whole life to advocate more for him, and for their next child, who displayed similar traits or markers. For him she took a different path. These experiences led Moon to work as a Parenting Health & Well-being Coach.Moon works with parents of high functioning autistic children, helping them to better understand their child’s specific needs. An Expert by Experience, and a former teacher, Moon parents her own high functioning autistic children. She understands that every autistic child is different and unique, so every strategy and programme must be unique too.  She also knows that doing it all by yourself is often lonely, sometimes scary and always challenging, but understanding and meeting your child’s specific needs is not just important, it’s essential!  Contact Moon at https://linktr.ee/MoonSade Hosted on Acast. How I became locked in an impossible questIn this podcast I talk about why we feel the need to be everything to everyone all the time, and how that leads us to feeling like we aren’t good enough, when we don’t meet our impossible standards. This is a subject I come back to over and over because we are so often stuck there. It can take a lot of healing work to lean into this idea, and fully embrace what it means to us. It is a subject worth hearing again and again and again. I think we need to drill these ideas into our heads as we have so much we are working against on a daily basis.“Recognising my own needs as being as important, if not more important than my child’s”.Let me know your experiences with this concept, and what you do to make sure you feel “good enough” more often.Plus, you can check out my courses & coaching offers on my website at https://gettingback2u.com/Follow me on Tiktok https://www.tiktok.com/@parentingimperfectly, where I do lots of Tiktoky type stuff in the realm of being a parentYouTube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGoXIMtJ8G58oZN0hl4vtUwInstagram https://www.instagram.com/parentingimperfectly/Facebook https://www.facebook.com/stopthetriggers/LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/beth1hardy/ Hosted on Acast.
