Robert Galinsky’s had a very rough couple of years with his father growing up. His father had undiagnosed depression which as we discussed, he worked through and resolved.   His childhood experiences motivated him to heal and help others has given him a more than full life as an artist: an actor, a writer, director, teacher, coach. Galinsky's suburban life drew him to find out directly how struggling people lived. Galinsky has been running youth writing workshops in Riker's Island for the past 7 years, so he helps us imagine what life is like in Riker's; the teens who are held there what they dream of, how they got there, what they hope to accomplish upon release. After this session, I felt that if there were more Galinsky's and if there was a pipeline for people to become Galinskys, the world would be a better place. When asked about this, Robert says, we're a consumer society and we don't have the will to deal with these issues. The first single release after joining the ECR label is "MAINSTAY," which is one of his most successful to date. This February, ECR will release a deluxe edition of "ECLECTRO" with bonus tracks.

Artist Scooter LaForge is a delight. To be honest, I somehow felt like connecting with him on this show was healing for me-now who’s the shrink!? Scooter’s work is amazing and so instinctual- he cannot not do it. Even though he’s worked with big names like he is as humble as can be. So much to learn from his perspective—growing up as a gay man in a tiny town in Arizona. I have to say I was envious hearing of all the free-range outdoor time he had, but alas the town, it’s sounds really small and devoid of gays which means a pretty homogenous group of people (boring!) Scooter is the best of what an artist is—someone fueled by their work and satisfied because of it. He complimented me a lot, so I’m going to give him an A as a guest rating. BETH CAMPBELL is someone who’s work first emerged in 2000 and impressed the f*ck out of me at the first greater New York Show. I became an instant fan and have watch her work has expanded and developed since then. So I was thrilled to have her on as my guest. Suzanne Murphy is a VERY successful Wall Street veteran (over 20 years). She owns an upper east side apartment, speaks at, and attends NYC social events that no one I know goes to. So, when she seemed genuinely interested coming out to Bushwick and being on my show, I was honored. It’s not even a charity event! It was illuminating for me to hear Suzanne talk about her values and hard work that has led her to have the life she has. She is passionate about setting an example for women to make empowered choices for themselves. Ok, she was given a great dad and a great work ethic… and she is smart and too, but she is not full of shit, and she makes that clear. Suzanne has not cut any rungs out on her ladder up. A banner day for Dr. Lisa! I got to talk with two hot young guys, Seth Cerrate and Patrick Bayley about their brand new collective Yea Man Spa Global which did a project that solicited sex stories in public, set up a warren of office cubicles and then encouraged fair goers to answer the phones and Surprise! It was such a blast talking to these guys about their (only a month old!) art collective and how they hit the ground running from Day 1 and how they see their future. Bright! I have never heard of a collective that seems so all-in tight. Maybe that’s because they all met while working service jobs at an illegal café together. I start this session by blurting out to my guest, ArtNet's National Art Critic, Ben Davis, that I have an art critic crush on him because I do! And I barely know him. Ben is one of the most insightful, honest, direct and hilarious art writers I have ever read. He really stands out to me in his art writing in that he is able to place art in a cultural, economic and social context in a very articulate, comprehendible way, while somehow uniquely incorporating a great sense of humor which makes his work a pleasure to read. Let's give ArtNet a BIG SHOUTOUT too for having Ben in his role there! I dig into whether Ben sees himself they way I see him, as a bit of a rebel in the art world, and turns out Ben had an unusual childhood which I think, gives him a certain objectivity on culture. Ben grew up on a sailboat! This somehow full-on blows my my mind and I have a lot of gee wiz type questions to get to the root of Ben’s perspective on the world from his unusual traveling environment growing up. Ben has just published a new book which we touch on, but mostly I implore him to describe how other art people process his writing. I saw Mick perform at a great show-Morrison Motel from John Morrison and I was immediately taken with the quality of his work - SO SHARP! Here's something worth noting from his bio: "Mick is a former laborer, professional boxer, addiction counselor & skeptic who moved to NYC at 48 & began doing standup." My take on Mick after this session is that he's a natural and despite not having a obvious path to it, the comedian in his soul took over who he is. I had dropped into Brklyn Comedy Club on my way home recently and caught this comedian, Edward Farrell, performing and I loved his act—it was highly original as was his character on stage. When I got home I looked him up and found out he owned 2 bars and the club that I saw him perform in! I got in touch with him and voila‑he was on the show! I dug in heartily and got to know Edward a bit through this session. He’s an introvert with an extrovert’s career. He’s from a long line of self-starters. I was totally jolted out of my art world cynicism by spending an hour with these two masters, one accomplished and one on his way. Don Porcella is a well-known artist with amazing, original work and a loooong resume of shows, fairs and collectors. Christian Williams, a young talent, seemingly plucked out of Buffalo, NY—comes to NYC and has the great good fortune of being paired with Don through Wild Geese Gallery. They share a sense of humor and other aesthetics in their work, but what comes through is the magic of a shared passion for creativity which produces a bond that transcends all of the other stuff. Though Don and Christian live hundreds of miles apart, I think these guys will be in touch for many, many years to come. Don Pocella Bio: Born and raised in Modesto, California, Don Porcella’s artwork has been exhibited at galleries and museums around the world including the United States, China, Greece, Germany, France, Denmark, Colombia and Mexico. Porcella’s art has been published in the New York Times, NY Arts, Fiber Arts Magazine, Chelsea Now, San Francisco Magazine and the Village Voice. He has a BA in Psychology from the University of California at San Diego, a BFA from California College of Arts and Crafts and an MFA from Hunter College in New York. Porcella’s work is included in public and private collections across the United States and Europe. Porcella has received grants from the Council on the Arts and Humanities for Staten Island, the Brooklyn Arts Council, an EAF Fellowship from Socrates Sculpture Park, the 2012 West Collects Prize, an artist residency at the Museum of Arts and Design, and a 2014 Swatch Art Residency in Shanghai. In 2015 Porcella collaborated with an artist from Iran and the work was exhibited at the Venice Biennial. In 2016, Porcella created 4 installations for the Hermes Maison in Shanghai, China that was published in over 100 television, online and print media in the US and China. In 2018, Porcella created 7 installations for the Hermes boutique in Manhattan, NY which was featured in Architectural Digest, NY Magazine and Yahoo. Christian Williams Bio: (Kiffy the pit) is an artist from Buffalo, NY working primarily in digital art, pen and ink, and currently adding painting to his arsenal. His style is heavily inspired by cartoons with his own little splash of chaos. His art captures the blissful & free nature of childish creativity a lawless smash up of the first thing that comes to his mind.  Wild Geese Gallery: Wild Geese Gallery is a multi-media collaborative space created by artist Pearce Green during the pandemic with the backing of Wild Geese Productions, which became a gathering place for young artists making new work. Laurie is an incredibly accomplished creative person. She has work in every major publication, author of several books, important design awards... I could go on. Nowadays she is focused on her book and workshop, How to Make Mistakes on Purpose  Dr. Lisa is upfront about her counter-transference. She identities with Laurie as far as age and career in commercial art, except Laurie soared where Dr. Lisa feels she flailed partly because of her self-esteem. Well, also, Laurie IS exceptionally talented. Laurie is unusual as a creative person in that she is so grounded and forward moving with her abilities. Her illustrations have appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times, New York Magazine, The Atlantic, The Wall Street Journal, and Vanity Fair, among many other publications.  Outside of her career as a designer, Laurie has taught both Graphic Design and Illustration at The School of Visual Arts and Parsons School of Design, as well as Pratt Institute and New York University. She has been awarded by the Type Directors Club, Art Directors Club, American Illustration, Print Magazine, Communication Arts, and AIGA, and was nominated for the medal of AIGA and an Emmy Award.

Michael Regilio, a super smart, HILARIOUS, LA comic, was on DLG about a year ago. We learned quite a bit about his background which includes him having to wear an eyepatch as a child. Since that time Michaels career as a comedian has really accelerated and he stopped by the Radio Free Brooklyn Studios while he's in NYC performing. See him while he's in NYC HERE. Recently Michael was hired by the Jordon Harbinger podcast to research and co-host his featured Sunday show-Skeptical Sundays. The most recent episode (hasn’t even aired yet) that he’s researched is about the use of pornography. Did you know that there’s a rising (pardon the pun) problem with young men who can no longer get erections with actual women? And the younger they start the harder it is to get their brains rewired so they can have sex without porn.
