David Berman was a great song writer who killed himself. BUT he left behind one of the most profound YET bouncy/ poignant/ and unforgettable music albums with his band Purple Mountains. He was a smart man, deep soul, wordsmith and in my humble opinion genius. The hits keep on coming....actually this is more of an actual review of Technicolor Paradise, a CD compilation by Numero Group of an amazing assortment of "a musical cocktail...two parties easy listening, one part jazz..." conga drums, bird calls, alluring sexy vibes, "mosquito bitten torch singers, mad genius band leaders, D-List actors," who needed gigs, "summoning Shangri-la." Get out the Daiquiri mix or swirl some rum in your snifter and get a little ear taste of this amazing Numero Group musical offering. My bulldogs give it their snort of approval!

Was reading Jessica Hopper critique of Lana Del Ray and a friend who passed away who was a big fan. How people touch our lives and music weaves us together.
Performance art via music...I'm not sure if you'll be putting him on all your playlists but this is art. His video's are disturbing and captivating...deep dark, Estonian underworld of rap.
I really enjoyed this book and 1/2 of it takes place in Chicago! Here's my take on why you should read it! Prince and his protege band Mazerati (yes, this is how it's spelled).

Chock full of tidbits inspired by Jessica Hoppers book "The First Collection of Criticism by a Living Female Rock Critic"- after reading the first paragraph of her book it inspired by to share my own reason's for using music as a remedy to life's journey- and as an inspiration for each day I spend with my music collection. Book Night Moves, by Jessica Hopper reviewed by moi! Spoiler alert, LOVED IT!The book is a series of vignettes/memoir slices of living and loving Wicker Park, Chicago and the music scene of which she is a "music reviewer" (Pitchfork, Spin, MTV News, etc...). She has a great style and you will be captivated once you lock in... so buy the book, take the ride and listen to this teaser...my podcast!
Reminiscing about when I first moved to Wicker Park, a neighborhood in Chicago- 90's before it got high rent! Quimby's, Myopic Books, Chicago Comics (Shappy) Lenny my eccentric roommate. The day Curt Cobain died- Susie Bright/sexologist mentioned, Jessica Hopper "Night Moves" book mentioned, Wicker 2000's- Facebook as "pen pal device" (Noah Van Schriver). Liz Phair (a few cuts off Girly Sound Tapes played/ mentioned) -Holiday Club, a drunken night. Being in my 20's. Buying retro records (Boz Scaggs/Glen Campbell) before there was a term for it. Radiohead/Oasis. Pop Art- a store/ alt comics....this does all revolve around Wicker 90's.
