DSOs – Dental Support Organizations. Some love ‘em. Some hate ‘em. Some just don’t know what they think. No matter what your thoughts, without DSOs in dentistry, where would all the dental grads go to get real world jobs? Over 6,000 dental grads this year alone. 51% of them women. Simple, rather obvious questions for you Where are they supposed to work? How are they supposed to open a practice with a half-million in debt? From experience, I can tell you, most solo practices are NOT set up to absorb a single new dentist.  Why? Too many struggle to support the dentist that owns them now! (If that’s you at the moment – you’re not alone and there is a way to solve your challenge – don’t despair. Reach out for help!) In a recorded conversation with my friend Steve Parker, the owner of The Profitable Dentist, we discussed this and a few other topics in The State of Dentistry® 2019, at length. Both Steve and I are pro solo practice/independent dentist.  But, I’m also not an anti-DSO kind of guy, either. I believe there are market forces at work that are far stronger than anything you or I can sway. So, you have a choice: Embrace the changes (Look, most of the changes in dentistry are incredibly positive!) or fight tooth and nail to maintain your status quo. (I’m not a fan of lack of progress or “regressiveness” in most areas, but I AM cautionary of ALL progress – doesn’t mean it’s good, right?) Catch my podcast with Steve, here. You won’t want to miss it. Talk soon,  Jerry

On this month’s CD, Anissa gives me (and you!) a crash course on how we can best utilize social media. Psychology is a fact of life; if we breathe our heads are exercising. If you have heard any entrepreneur or top salesman, their state of mind plays a most important role in their success. Kim and I had a ball recording the latest audio interview on the Business of Dentistry, what we call Dentistry Confidential®, here at Jerry Jones Direct.  In fact, for a full hour, we focused mostly on one specific area in your practice where you can CRUSH your overhead! If you're frustrated with your overhead and would like to see it drop, there are three simple steps to take (no, I didn’t say it'd be EASY!): Here are three of them: 1.   Lower expenses (a review of every expense you have is in order) 2. Increase production and collections (this is by far the most effective and fastest to take hold and make an impact aside from slicing your payroll) 3. Get hooked up with guys like Kim and myself who study and know business, listen, take notes and make changes.
