After two long, cold years in the deep freeze, we’re thawing out the podcast for a grand return (or a last hurrah?) to talk about COLD MOVIES. In this episode… Despite two year’s worth of life to catch up on, Olly is keen to make LIFESCORES as quick as possible. So naturally we talk at length about moving house, observing soccer live in a stadium, and one of the Guys on Film team gets a promotion to "Wife of the Podcast". As well as the low-down on our favourite flicks from the two years we've been on ice. In SEGGY ONE Iain gets put through his football (soccer league ball) paces in a sporting quiz. And in the main event, it's a 4X DEEP DIVE, or is that… 4X DEEP FREEZE? In the first episode of 2021, we’re examining Friends in Movies! What does that mean? Well we didn’t know either - as Olly researched buddy movies and Iain researched the cast of F.R.I.E.N.D.S in their silver screen careers. The result? A collection of terse, scathing comments from Olly about how Iain got things so wrong, and a whole lot of Friend-related banter!   First, Iain and Olly put their own friendship to the test in a variant on the 'newlywed' game. We pitch each other on Friends-themed movies in Seggy 1, and in the Deep Dive, we get into Olly’s top movie friendships, Iain’s harrowing experience with the Jennifer Aniston movie The Switch and we judge what Matthew Perry’s chances in pugilistic combat are, in Bing Bing Bing - Round 1.   Of course, we have the regular LifeScores™ and top it all off on a disaster performance on the Name Game. In the wake of the news of Sir Sean Connery’s passing, we take a look (listen) at the cinematic accents that hit and missed the mark. Set accents to stun and banter quality to ‘medium’ - it's another Guys on Film podcast! In Seggy 1, we lift the nation’s spirits with “Everything’s Going to be OK” where we explore iconic films, if everything was just… alright. In LifeScores™, Oliver tells us about his spangly new PlayStation 5 and awakens a line of dialogue from Pet Sematary. It can mean only one thing: it’s the not-quite-annual Guys on Film Halloween Spooktacular!  In this episode, we break from our traditional Deep Dive on a movie-related topic and bring you a rapid-fire succession of lovingly-crafted segments on spooky and scary topics! You guessed it, we’re calling it a CreepDive! Featuring Olly talking about films that genuinely scared him and why, Iain asking you whether it's Argento or ArgentNO and a Name Game for the ages. But before all that Olly interviews Iain for a mystery job, and we give you our LifeScores™.

Grab your microwaved popcorn and pretend to tear a ticket-stub, it’s the Home Cinema episode of Guys on Film podcast! The cinemas are still mainly shut, so we thought it wise to deep dive on the current best alternative: Home Cinema!   In this week’s Seggy One, Olly quizzes Iain on movie running times in another stonking “Higher or Lower”…  Or is that stinking? In LifeScores we hear how Iain and Olly are doing in pandemic times and a bit about their recent viewing habits; including a re-watch of The Matrix and setting off on the journey that is the IMDB Top 250 movies watch-list.   And in our Deep Dive, we talk about inflatable projection screens, whether sorting out your audio at home is worth the hassle, and Iain unconvincingly tells us that pixels don’t matter. Oh, and Olly completely forgets to discuss VR home cinema, despite thesis-level research and preparation.   ENJOY!

We could’ve gone the easy route and recorded another Outbreak Movies. We could’ve gone for a depressing soirée through Isolation Movies. But in these UNPRECEDENTED TIMES, we gave YOU the choice (wow) and you opted for something to lift the mood (not the Lockdown) with this week’s episode: Feel Good Movies! Olly kicks it off with a suitably depressing Seggy 1, where we learn the price waning celebrities are willing to provide personalised messages for in a game of Higher or Lower? Iain is ready and willing to give it his best shot. In LifeScores, we learn how Olly and Iain are getting on with hunkering down and… … In our deep dive, we give you (slightly more than) 5 of our top Feel Good movies each. We cover it all; from Studio Ghibli to Disney classics through Olly trying to convince us that The Truman Show isn’t sinister. We’ve got it all! And stay tuned for the name game. What's neither brilliant, nor terrible? Not a lofty career best... but not critically panned either... It's a category we call: "Bang Average".  On this episode of Guys on Film, we unscientifically break down the career "medium" performances of a handful of actors, including (predictably) Arnold Schwarzenegger and Dwayne Johnson, as well as somebody else that Iain wasn't officially told to research. How do you define something that's just... "OK"? Don't think too hard about it, you'll break your brain - we did! But a biscuit-rating scale helped with some of it. Also on this episode, we 'Also Known As" in our Seggy 1 Quiz. Olly asks Iain to work out which films these foreign translations belong to... and Iain struggles hard. Can you do any better? Anyway, we kick things off with a movie music quiz. Iain takes on the challenge of identifying the song, artist and movie it was in from just the opening lines. How will you do? Welcome to 2019 from the Guys on Film podcast. In this first episode of the year, Iain quizzes Olly on his Japanese movie knowledge after a New Year trip East. We get our Life Score update from Olly and Iain. Iain recounts the top movies he'd seen over the festive period and on an aeroplane and Olly commiserates himself for a poor pub quiz movie question performance. And in the Deep Dive this week, we discuss... hey, you guessed it Detectives Hunting Serial Killers (it's in the damn title). With morbid documentaries being all the rage on streaming services, we look at their movie counterparts and talk about the M.O., the patterns, the psychology and some of the techniques used by detectives to catch them. Along with a rundown of some of our favourites, including Se7en, Silence of the Lambs, Zodiac and a like for like comparison on Manhunter and Red Dragon. Try to enjoy it!

Alas, 2018 is on the way out and so is our first century of 'sodes. But what's on the way in is an episode so ram-packed with lookahead previews and Seggy 1 quizzing that Olly got audibly annoyed as we overran on time. One bang-up Christmas holiday editing job later and we have the episode you're likely already listening to. In an expletive-heavy Seggy 1, Olly will ask Iain to honestly and openly choose a category for a variety of movie villians, in his logically titled quiz: "Twat, Dick, Prick, Wanker or 'Och, they're fine'". Play along at home OR on the move! And then in our Deep Dive, prepare yourself for our rundown of the top films taking our fancy (or not) for 2019. Try to enjoy!    

UFOs, close encounters, unknown aromas and of course; weird goings on inside Midlands-based residential garden sheds. What are we on about? Alien Visitors of course! This week Iain and Olly open their investigations and start out by asking themselves "Do I want to believe?" and end around somewhere like "Will you please at least try to believe?" In Seggy 1, Oliver quizzes Iain on the multi-part, (fictional) close encounter scale (apparently real, really) and Iain gives some baffling answers. Then in our Deep Dive, we ask what's the worst that could happen in an alien abduction as we assess Fire in the Sky, cover some (incredibly interesting) movie subway trivia as we mull over Quatermass and the Pit and also find time to chime in on other strange visitor classics such as E.T., Cocoon, Batteries Not Included and MORE. You'd have to be lobotomised to miss it!

Our third Halloween as a podcast (wow!) and we're getting stuck right into slasher films in spooktacular fashion! First up, we regale the joys of Nicolas Cage's latest outing in our Seggy 1 Mandy review with a special appearance by Mandy. In our Deep Dive, we're chatting about what makes slashers so special. The inventive on-screen deaths, the outfits, the weapons and much more. We talk through a couple of our favourites each and then discuss the rules if you want to survive one, or if you want to don the scary mask yourself (don't try this at home). Finally Olly tries to get Iain to green light a couple slasher films of his own!

We're back, and this month we explore a bygone era of film-watching still close to many people's hearts, as we Deep Dive the subject of video rental! But first, Olly quizzes Iain in a Striving for Bronze (Going for Gold) on mystery movie snacks. We check in on our Lifescores, deliver our latest film reviews and find out what our favourite cakes and tea accompaniments are during our Intermission. And all that before we Deep Dive into video shops and VHS rental! We have a special interview with Andy Johnson of Liverpool video shop VideOdyssey who tells us why he opened a video shop in the digital age. And finally, Iain and Olly discuss the sights, sounds, smells and best tapes rented from their video shop memory lane discussion. You'll be rewinding and enjoying this 'sode, over and over and over.

It's AUGUST already - which can mean only two things: Iain officially reaches the "old" threshold and we're previewing the top movies for the month! We're chatting about the web/tech-nightmare-horror genre's big outing this month with both Unfriended: Dark Web and Searching on their way. But also tackle some big hitters with Denzel Washington's old man action hero return in Equalizer 2 as well as Ant Man and The Wasp. And Olly turns into a baddie!

Well that's it, we finally say "FIN" to Shark Month, and what a month it's been, from facts and jokes, to facts and...more jokes, it's been delightful. So what has your brain and ears got in store for the next 50 minutes? Well, it's a whole lotta chat about Renny Harlin's Meisterwork "Deep Blue Sea", Iain had never seen it, and Olly owned it on Region 1 DVD so is it good for todays audience? and does it stand the test of time?
