IMVDb co-founders Doug Klinger and Adam Fairholm are joined by music video producer Jason Baum to break down the decade in music videos. https://imvdb.com/the2010s
Doug Klinger, Andrea Allen, and Chris Black break down IMVDb's top music videos of 2017.
Wow, where to start this week. Kanye’s video featuring fake nude celebs is both the most talked about and most difficult to find video of the week (it’s exclusive to Tidal). Doug had a rap verse in an OMG song produced by Benny Blanco, Adam A is actively boycotting the show and he refuses to tell us why. Doug dropped a Burdines reference like it’s 1997. Vine is letting the cool kids make 140 second videos. Joe Stakun directed one of the funniest videos we’ve ever seen for AJJ. Adam F? Adam F is good, thanks for asking.
This week? We’re talking about Dads. Are they part of a generation that skipped by music videos altogether? Doug showed his Dad and Paul McCartney video and his Dad loved it, so there’s that. But there are more questions than answers here as we did deeper. Why did Celine Dion look like she was in her mid 40s in 1996, when she was 28? Do Mom’s care if they’re cool? What is Dad rock? Plus, we’re talking new videos from Major Lazer (Rupert Burton), Cheerleader (Josh Forbes), and Red Hot Chili Peppers (Olivia Wilde).

This week there are some things you should know. Doug wants you to know what even though he is an avowed Lil Dicky hater, the serious music video Lil Dicky released this week has warmed his heart. Justin Bieber wants you to know his tour was cool, thanks for asking. Selena Gomez wants you to know you should kill ‘em with kindness. Adam Alexander wants you know that Canada’s Wonderland used to be owned by Paramount. Adam F just wants you to be happy.

The music video podcast boys are back after a brief hiatus, and they are joined by music video director emeritus Nicolas Heller to talk about Kanye West’s finances, whether Fleur & Manu is really Doug and Nicolas, what “THat Part” means, and much more.

It’s been a rough week. PT Anderson made another music video featuring someone walking (this time, it’s Radiohead’s own Thom Yorke). Meghan Trainor had to literally revoke a music video to undo some body alterations. Doug ordered Chick-fil-a on postmates and had to pay for $15 worth of honey mustard he didn’t want. But there is a light at the end of the music video tunnel. We got an awesome video for “Panda.” We got an interesting video from M. Night Shyamalan. We got a good Radiohead video. Doug got a good tweet out of the Chick-fil-a incident. Join us as we pick up the pieces.
Grab some popcorn (and maybe whatever Jay Z was drinking in the “Drunk in Love” video) because Beyonce released pretty much what amounts to a feature film to go along with her new album. Doug and Adam break it down, including how difficult it is to find, and how difficult it is figure out who directed what parts. We also got new (free) vids from Florence + The Machine, Tim Heidecker, and Wintersleep. Bonus: Doug saw Kyle from Brthr on the street and recounts this in detail.

Prince is dead, and you can’t watch any of his music videos online (including that one from a few years ago with the breakfast). Harmony Korine made a Rihanna music video where she shots a guy and that’s about it. Taylor Swift won't let us see her sweat. There’s a video called “Fuck Donald Trump,” and we also forgot to mention that Kanye West made the Eric Wareheim / Aziz Ansari “Famous” video the official version

Do you have boy problems? That’s too bad, because the only boy problem we got is we have too many handsome boys on the podcast talking about music videos. Carly Rae is back in the mix this week, along with Chance the Rapper who is showing off by getting to ride on top of a CTA train. Plus we have a video that we very much wish could be the official video for “Famous” by Kanye West.

Would you be interested in a music video that contains a lengthy sequence depicting the artist going through airport security? Iggy Azalea has you covered this week as Doug and Adam ponder the big questions. Do you need a boarding pass for a private flight? Would the TSA let you on a plane if you bag is filled with aerosol cans? And that’s just one music video, people. This week we’ve also got a concept video that you have to watch on your phone, a Schoolboy Q video with one of our favorite shots of the year, and more!

This week on the podcast the handsome music video boys are having an existential music video crisis - what is a music video? If you can pay the twerking vine lady $200 to twerk in front of your song and get 1 million loops, will the film aspect of music videos suffer? It’s not all introspection this week, though, because there’s a new Hiro music video out, and Adam Alexander is really into this Nick Jonas and Tove Lo video.

The handsome music video boys are back in town, and one of them (Doug) has stories to tell from his time at SXSW, including being part of the three-person music video jury. Plus, we’ve got new videos from Sia, Edward Sharpe, and more!

If one music video is good, how about two music videos? How about two similar music videos back to back for the same song? This week we’re talking about Rihanna and Drake’s sexy double video for “Work,” a back to back extravaganza that features Drake doing what he does best - have a famous female pop star do some sexy dancing for him. Also we’re talking about the that music machine video everyone is watching this week, as well as the first non-comedy Jon Lajoie music video. Sure Taylor Swift upset Kendrick Lamar to win Album of the Year at the Grammys, but she also upset him in the Music Video of the Year category. Why does “Bad Blood” keep winning so many awards? Also, Gwen Stefani staged a Sophie Muller directed live music videos during a Grammy commercial break, and Ok Go released possibly the most technically challenging music video ever made. And most importantly, happy family day.
Beyonce dropped a new video for her single “Formation” last week, and producer Chris Black noticed there were some shots in that video from a documentary he produced a few years ago. He spoke up about it on Twitter - and chaos ensued. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could talk to Chris and get the full story? Well guess what, he’s on this week to shed some light on the whole thing deal, and tell us what it’s like to upset the Beyhive. Plus we’ve got Vimeo’s Andrea Allen with us as we talk about daylight Super Bowl halftime shows, lipstick, and bein’ my baby tonight.

Everything’s poppin’. Music video directors are winning awards at Sundance, there’s a new Hiro Murai video to watch, and best of all, Zayn (formerly of One Direction) has made it very clear he likes sex (a lot). Join us this week to celebrate!

Spotify is showing TV shows for some reason, Kanye is calling out Wiz Khalifa over twitter for some reason, and Mike Huckabee made an Adele parody music video for some reason. Maybe it’s best to leave those reasons as unknown, but this week we are digging in anyways. Plus, new music videos from 2 Chainz, The Chemical Bros, Point Point, and more!
