I loved 'show and tell' in grade school. When it was your day to 'show and tell' it was an opportunity to bring to class your most favorite thing, talk (tell) about it, then reveal it (show). It was always exciting to hear and see what others would bring. Jesus brings to the world and to us the greatest and most profound show and tell the world has ever known: God's love. He talks about it, "God loves the world and you so much that he sent me, to save you, bringing abundant and eternal life." And then Jesus shows the world and us God's love. He washes the disciples' feet and says, "Do the same." He says, "Love your enemies" saying, "Father forgive them for they know now what they do" and then dies on cross for others, teaching all the while, "Lay down your life for others." Then Jesus rises again, appearing to the disciples, "See my hands, my feet, my side?!" And they are reminded again of God's love, "I am the resurrection and the life." Jesus is the greatest 'show and tell' the world has ever known, both telling and showing God's love. The post Podcast: 2024-04-21: Gospel of John: Who is Jesus? The Resurrection and the Life first appeared on Crestview Church.
It's been a wonderful week of light.  Spring is coming and the warmth is noticeable, giving light to our world.  A rare event of eclipse happened across the United States and our world.  People flocked to this event, looking to the sun to see this wonder.   Jesus says in John 8:12, "I AM the light of the world.  Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will see the light of life."  That sounds important and wonderful. The post Podcast: 2024-04-14: Gospel of John: Who is Jesus? The Light of the World first appeared on Crestview Church.
Sunday we begin a 10 week series to tie a bow on our 5 month series on the Gospel of John, by looking back and seeking understanding of what Jesus was talking about in his ministry and teachings with the seven 'I am' claims (the Bread of Life, the Light of the World, the Resurrection and the Life, the Gate, the Good Shepherd, the Vine, and the Way/Truth/Life).  The post Podcast: 2024-04-07: Gospel of John: Who is Jesus? The Bread of Life first appeared on Crestview Church.
Sunday we will return for worship to celebrate Jesus' resurrection!  Jesus' resurrection opens the door to light and life as he reveals himself to be the hinge of all history, his resurrection marks the 'turning of the tide', opening the door to our rescue, redemption, reconciliation, restoration, renewal, and our own resurrection.  Jesus' death and resurrection changes everything!  The post Podcast: 2024-03-31: Easter: Resurrection – Marvelous Love and Miraculous Catch! first appeared on Crestview Church.
Today is Palm Sunday, beginning a roller coaster ride for Jesus and the disciples - bewildering, tragic, and wonderful, all in just seven days. We begin our journey in John chapter 12. Mary, the sister of Martha and Lazarus washes Jesus' feet with an extravagant, expensive, pure nard mingled with tears. This is an important beginning to this passionate week. Mary's emotion of devotion and love for Jesus, having raised her brother Lazarus from the dead, is flowing like a mighty river. Are her tears of joy or of sorrow? Jesus has been saying with regularity now that he will be leaving them soon. That he must die and rise 3 days later. The Christian faith gives us many different sticky questions to ponder and explore.  Here is one such question: Does Jesus divide or unite?  This question may lead to more questions... divide or unite how?  Divide and unite over what exactly?  Does he cause these things, bring these things, and if so, what/how/when/where/why and many more questions.   The post Podcast: 2024-03-17: Gospel of John: The Grace/Truth Way – Does Jesus Divide Or Unite? first appeared on Crestview Church.
In 4 weeks, we have seen, heard, and witnessed eyewitness accounts, through the testimony of the disciple John, Jesus' authority over illness, disease, disability, nature, the demonic, sin, death, and hell. What does this mean? Does it stimulate faith in Jesus? And if it does, what does Jesus' authority over these things have to do with our everyday lives? It begs the question - What authority is our life under? If it's Jesus' authority, how does that look? If you believe that Jesus has authority over these things, and you believe in Jesus, how does it manifest in our everyday lives? The post Podcast: 2024-03-10: Gospel of John: Authority and Testimonies (Believe ‘into’ Jesus) first appeared on Crestview Church.
This Sunday is week 4 of 4 on Jesus' demonstration of authority beyond any doubt that he is the Messiah. Yet, Jesus surprises his followers, including his disciples, by his authority over sin, death, and hell. We have already heard Jesus speak words to others, "Your sins are forgiven." This causes quite a stir. Who has that kind of authority? (Jesus) And then in chapter 11 of John, Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead! Hmmm... who has authority to do that? (Jesus) The post Podcast: 2024-03-03: Gospel of John: Authority – Death to Life (Believe ‘into’ Jesus) first appeared on Crestview Church.
This week we will be talking about the third sign, that of Jesus’ authority over the demonic. A lot of our view of these spiritual beings will be based on our personal and cultural worldview. The post Podcast: 2024-02-25: Gospel of John: Authority Over the Demonic first appeared on Crestview Church.
John is telling some eyewitness accounts of Jesus’ miracles.  Last week we saw Jesus display his authority as the Messiah over illness, disease, and physical maladies with two stories back to back (Chapter 4-5). This week we hear testimony of Jesus’ authority over nature in two back to back stories in chapter 6; feeding the five thousand and walking on water. The post Podcast: 2024-02-18: Gospel of John: Authority over Nature – that you may believe and have life (Believe ‘into’ Jesus) first appeared on Crestview Church.
This Sunday, we encounter in John 4-5, Jesus authority over illness, infirmity and disease. It brings up some interesting questions about Jesus and healing. We will be reading from John 4:43-5:14, 9:1-12, and Isaiah. 61:1-3. The post Podcast: 2024-02-11: Gospel of John: Authority Over Illness – That you may believe and have life (Believe ‘into’ Jesus) first appeared on Crestview Church.
Is there a difference between believing 'in' Jesus and living 'into' Jesus? It may seem like not much of a difference... but upon reflection, it's a subtle difference that makes a significant difference, in the end making all the difference. Believing 'in' Jesus expresses a mental ascent to some fact about Jesus, a trust in that belief - he existed, he did amazing things, he was an amazing teacher. The post Podcast: 2024-02-04: Gospel of John: The Fields are Ripe for Harvest first appeared on Crestview Church.
In chapter 3 and 4 of the Gospel of John, Jesus is encountering people with regularity - in smaller groups (disciples and close friends), big crowds are gathering to see and hear him, and 1 on 1's too. Some are believing and receiving Jesus. Others are rejecting him. The post Podcast: 2024-01-28: Gospel of John: Born Again (Jesus invitation again!) first appeared on Crestview Church.
We are for the first time encountering some resistance to Jesus' testimony. Throughout the Gospel of John we will encounter a mixed reception of Jesus and his ministry. Some will not understand, others simply cannot commit to following Jesus, others flat out reject him, and others embrace him, longing for Jesus to fill their lives with redemption, renewal, meaning, fulfillment and purpose. The post Podcast: 2024-01-21: Gospel of John: Who Can Accept Jesus’ Testimony? (You Can!) first appeared on Crestview Church.
When Jesus says to Nicodemus, "You must be born again." Nicodemus has no idea what Jesus means. He easily misunderstands.  Who wouldn't?  How can someone be 'reborn?' Jesus doesn't leave him there in confusion. He states further, "You must be born of the Spirit."  OK, now we are getting somewhere.  Yet, this isn't quite so clear either. The post Podcast: 2024-01-14: Gospel of John: Born Again (of the Spirit)! first appeared on Crestview Church.
The Gospel of John is stunning in depth and insight, revelation and reward. Sunday we move from Jesus 1st sign of turning water to wine to his clearing of the temple courts where he promises another sign, 'To destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days.' Jesus sounds like a crazy man making a preposterous self-proclamation. Yet, it is packed with profound mystery, wonder, and beauty. The post Podcast: 2024-01-07: Gospel of John: Cleaning House first appeared on Crestview Church.
What and how does deeper engagement in God's ways and will for your and my life look like? What does it look like to engage this together in community? One thing for sure, incarnational discipleship requires intentionality... Sunday, we will continue in our walk through the Gospel of John with Jesus' miracle at a wedding in Cana of Galilee, turning water to wine. It's a perfect message for the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024. The post Podcast: 2023-12-31: Gospel of John: Water to Wine – New Wine In New Wineskins! first appeared on Crestview Church.
As we have traveled through Advent 2023 through Chapter One of the Gospel of John, we have much to contemplate about what we bring to Jesus, the newborn King. From incarnation to discipleship Jesus invites us to bring our brokenness, grief, and loss; our sin and shame in repentance and confession; open hands to receive his salvation and gift of the Holy Spirit; our seeking, finding and following in discipleship. All of that in Chapter One of the Gospel of John? Indeed. The post Podcast: 2023-12-24: What gift do you bring? (Advent 4) God has made himself known: Come and Worship first appeared on Crestview Church.
This week, we continue to celebrate Jesus' incarnation and birth, while at the same time, entering into the waiting and longing and anticipating of his coming again. Chapter one of the Gospel of John has been beautiful in leading us in knowing Jesus, our Lord and Savior. The post Podcast: 2023-12-17: Gospel of John: Discipleship: Follow ME (Advent 3) God has made himself known in the finding and following! first appeared on Crestview Church.
2nd Sunday of Advent: As we enter into the 2nd week of Advent 2023, we walk deeper into the text of the Gospel of John, as our attention is turned to the relationship between John the Baptist (JB) and Jesus (JC). They have a fascinating relationship and through both of them, God makes himself vividly known. The post Podcast: 2023-12-10: Gospel of John: Jesus and John the Baptist – Preparing THE WAY of salvation (Advent 2) God has made himself known: Repentance and Salvation first appeared on Crestview Church.
