Description

Sitting in the Intersection is a podcast about relationships across differences. Co-hosts CJ and Jacs travel around the U.S. to find stories from people like you... people who by choice or by chance are in challenging, sometimes messy, complicated relationships, and somehow have a way of making them work.

We all do this. We build and navigate relationships with people who are different than us each and every day. So, how do we do it?

During a time where we seem to be more divided than ever, how do we manage to keep the peace with our friends, family, lovers, co-workers? This podcast is dedicated to the exploration of that very question.

Jac sits down with Dolores to discuss what it's been like for them to settle into queerness and blossom into their trans identity. The conversation was so good, we want to share the whole thing with you. Topics include Spice Girl crushes, NC's HB2, bodily changes that come along with taking testosterone, family ups and downs, and pronouns. A huge thank you to Dolores for sharing their story so openly. You are an inspiration.
Six. That is the average number of times a person goes to the bathroom in a 24 hour period. It’s one of the most intrinsic of human behaviors, and yet the good people of North Carolina recently found a way to make it complicated and controversial. At Reed College in Portland, Oregon, however, it's a different story. In this episode, we explore the intersection of gender identity and bathrooms. The music in this episode is from the amazingly talented, Durham based band, Laila Nur & The Love Riot. Find their song, “BOY” and more at lailanur.com and on Facebook and YouTube.
How Did We Get Here: Episode 2 Debrief CJ and Jacs discuss the ins and outs of Episode 2: An Exploration of Femininity. In this episode, we invite you into the chaotic, channel-changing television set of our podcast to hear how race has impacted the lives and relationships of John and Trey, an interracial, gay couple living in Harlem, NY, Kane an internationally known spoken word poet and educator who is processing his whiteness, and that other guy from the streets of Mardi Gras in New Orleans, whose name we never quite learned but whose confederate flag backpack certainly caught my eye. A special thank you to Macy Gray for her new song, “White Man”, which you’ll hear at the end of this episode. Check out the amazing video for this song, and visit macygray.com for more info about her music.

A special thank you to each of our storytellers and to folk musician, Leyla McCalla, for her performance of the Haitian Creole song, "Peze Kafe". You can find her brilliant music at leylamccalla.com.
