It’s incredibly confusing seeing Zack Snyder credited as the director of that movie when we now know that he stepped away due to a family tragedy and was replaced by Joss Whedon. As time went by, more stories surfaced about how Whedon had rewrote and re-shot large chunks of the film and the studio having their way with the production with Snyder out of the picture. The hashtag #releasethesnydercut became something fans were rallying around in spite of those allegedly in the know dispelling it as a myth.Find out how the myth became a reality in this review.
Uncut Gems marks the best performance of Adam Sandler's career but for some reason the people behind the Oscars didn't think he deserved to be nominated. Some comedians do drama better than most accomplished actors and that doesn't stick well with the Academy, find out why in this movie review. More movie reviews at: https://thewatchman.com.au/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thewatchmanreviewsTwitter: https://twitter.com/_The_WatchmanYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/thewatchmanreviewsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/thewatchman.com.au/Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Colour Out Of Space is the first feature film that Stanley has made in 20 years, find out what put him into into exile and why it took so long for him to come back in this movie review.Stanley's mainstream debut as a director was set to be a film adaptation of H.G. Wells’ The Island of Doctor Moreau in 1996.That experience was enough to take him out of the game for 20 years.Colour Out Of Space is a modern re-telling on one of HP Lovecraft’s short stories that first appeared in the science fiction magazine Amazing Stories in September 1927.Richard Stanley and writer Scarlet Amaris have done an excellent job bringing Lovecraft’s story into the modern age. They’ve been loyal to the subject matter but still take enough liberties with the story to make it relevant and fun. More reviews at: https://thewatchman.com.au/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thewatchmanreviewsTwitter: https://twitter.com/_The_WatchmanYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/thewatchmanreviewsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/thewatchman.com.au/Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. The Invisible Man is an Australian made film that encourages our local industry to grow up and get with the times. Find out how in this movie review. The Invisible Man is also another attempt from Universal Pictures to breathe new life into their monsters franchise and it looks like they’ve got it right this time thanks to a deal with the highly credible Blumhouse, a great cast and an extremely talented director.Director Leigh Whannell is one of Australia’s best directors right now. He’s last couple of films have him looking like a modern day Hitchcock. But like all good Australian artists we had to send him away to achieve that status, instead of supporting him over here.More reviews at: https://thewatchman.com.au/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thewatchmanreviewsTwitter: https://twitter.com/_The_WatchmanYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/thewatchmanreviewsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/thewatchman.com.au/Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Underwater underrated?

Underwater underrated?

Underwater seems to be one those movies the studios didn’t know what to do with, so they released it during a dump month, find out why it ended up being better than expected in this movie review.Underwater is the last film to be released under the 20th Century Fox name since they were conquered by Disney and changed to 20th Century Studios heralding the end of an era for the company. It’s also been three years since this film was shot and when people heard about the January 2020 release date, a lot of critics wrote it off. Which is a little unfair.
Find out why Bad Boys is better off without Michael Bay in this movie review. It’s been well over 20 years since Hollywood’s favourite moron Michael Bay released his all style and no substance buddy cop flick Bad Boys. One thing is certain, Bay has a well worn formula that he sticks to. Bad Boys 2 was pretty similar to Bad Boys 1 and if you haven’t seen either, or any of Michael Bay’s movies for that matter, you can replicate the experience by drinking about 30 Red Bulls, standing in front of a strobe light and beating yourself over the head with a plank of wood.Thankfully, he’s passed the torch to directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah and the franchise is better for it, although he does make a small cameo appearance in the film, just to ensure his taint lingers ever so slightly.More reviews at: https://thewatchman.com.au/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thewatchmanreviewsTwitter: https://twitter.com/_The_WatchmanYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/thewatchmanreviewsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/thewatchman.com.au/Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Find out why Robert Eggers' The Lighthouse received high praise from critics but wasn't Oscar material in this movie review.Set in the late 1800s The Lighthouse tells the tale of two men assigned to tend to a lighthouse off the coast of New England. Thomas Wake is a grizzly old sea dog who’s managed the place for years, Ephrahim Winslow is the young man new to the job with a mysterious past. Regardless of the contract which states the men share the work equally, Wake tends to the lamp and cooks  the meals, Winslow does pretty much everything else. Neither man is friendly nor are they particularly likeable. Parasite is the latest film from Korean Director Bong Joon Ho, find out why it’s caused such a stir among pundits behind major awards in this review.Parasite is a metaphor for the class war that is raging in South Korea told with suspense and black humour. It’s the story of how a working class family manages to con their way into the lives of an upper class family.More reviews at: https://thewatchman.com.au/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thewatchmanreviewsTwitter: https://twitter.com/_The_WatchmanYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/thewatchmanreviewsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/thewatchman.com.au/Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Find out why Sam Mendes’ World War 1 epic 1917 is an awards season favourite in this movie review.Mendes is no slouch when it comes to quality filmmaking, an Oscar on debut with American Beauty, a couple of Bond films, Road to Perdition and Jarhead to name a few. 1917 however is his most audacious and visually impressive film to date.1917 is has been crafted to look like it has been shot in one continuous take, which makes the film incredibly immersive. Think the Copacabana scene from Goodfellas sustained for an entire movie. While it’s not the first time this technique has been applied—check out movies like Rope and Birdman or do a quick search of IMDB—it might be the most impressive application of the technique thus far.More reviews at: https://thewatchman.com.au/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thewatchmanreviewsTwitter: https://twitter.com/_The_WatchmanYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/thewatchmanreviewsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/thewatchman.com.au/Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Find out why Netflix's The Witcher has fans going against the critics in this review of the hit TV series.Special thanks to Skar Productions for giving me permission to use his Epic Metal cover of "Toss a Coin To Your Witcher"Check him out here: https://www.youtube.com/user/skarproductions1?sub_confirmation=1Or on Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/SkarProductions/If there’s one thing Netflix’s the Witcher has over Game of Thrones it’s that the series of books it is based on is complete. There’s not going to be any money grubbing show runners hastily wrapping it up so they can move onto the next project. It’s still a ways off being the event television that Thrones was and while it has some similar elements—fantasy, titties, sword fighting, political intrigue, magic and more titties—it’s kind of ridiculous to expect the show to be Game of Thrones. The Witcher is more like a darker and sexier version of Hercules or Zena meets Hellboy.Get the song here:Itunes: https://music.apple.com/us/album/toss-a-coin-to-your-witcher-single/1494584142Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/1EOFryzMzGhLChLftfu9BP?si=BAYWpREwQNO76e1Vk4i6JQMore reviews at: https://thewatchman.com.au/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thewatchmanreviewsTwitter: https://twitter.com/_The_WatchmanYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/thewatchmanreviewsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/thewatchman.com.au/Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. If the Mandalorian is anything to go by, the future of Stars Wars seems a lot brighter on the small screen. Find out why in this season 1 review. When Disney Plus launched in November one of the biggest incentives to subscribe was the addition of the first ever live action Star Wars TV series, The Mandalorian. Take into account the fact that most die hard fans of all things Marvel, Star Wars and other Disney stuff likely own most of the other content and it was probably the only incentive. It seems to have worked though. Disney boasted about signing up over 10 million users the day after it launched. To put it into perspective it took Netflix two years to achieve the same result. It might be a stretch to put it down to one show, there’s a lot of other content on the platform but, as far as new content goes, the Mandalorian is the top draw. Unless you want to watch Jeff Goldblum eat ice cream and talk about sneakers. In this review of the HBO TV series Watchmen we discuss the interesting dilemma writer/director Damon Lindelof was faced with in bringing this show to life. On one hand he is a huge fan of the original story and truly reveres it’s creator Alan Moore so he is compelled to honour the source material. On the other, creating this show goes completely against Moore’s wishes of doing anything with the story other than leaving it in its original form. Moore’s stance is that Watchmen is a comic book and should remain one, designed to be read a certain way, not made into a film and definitely not a TV show. In approaching the TV series, fans of the comic, and of Mr Moore would experience the same dilemma that Lindelof suffered. Do you, as a fan, respect the creator's wishes and boycott the thing entirely, or surrender to your curiosity? More reviews at: https://thewatchman.com.au/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thewatchmanreviewsTwitter: https://twitter.com/_The_WatchmanYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/thewatchmanreviewsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/thewatchman.com.au/Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. You can’t do a #movie review about #StarWars #TheRiseOfSkywalker without talking about The Last Jedi, for it is here that a major disturbance in the Star Wars fanbase was fully realised. When older fans expressed their dislike for it, it was a shock to hear some people say that Star Wars was no longer for a particular generation and that it was time to grow up and move on. Because Star Wars, has always been for everyone. After The Last Jedi came out people were split down the middle, they either loved it or utterly hated it. There was all this talk of social justice, inclusion, diversity, entitled feminism and “toxic fandom”. Suddenly Star Wars wasn’t for everyone at all, it had turned into a politicised mess and the arguments raged across social media.Sure, fans had squabbled in the past that prequel trilogy could have been a lot better. They came to terms with George Lucas’ obsessive tinkering, where the ghastly 90s CGI he dumped all over the original trilogy did not date nearly as well as the old practical effects. However, these minor gripes had minimal effect on the harmony between people united by a mutual love for the franchise.Star Wars these days is a long way from humble beginnings as a kid's movie about a ragtag bunch of democratic rebels taking on the dictatorial might of an ambitious Empire.Star Wars and Disney are the Empire.More reviews at: https://thewatchman.com.au/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thewatchmanreviewsTwitter: https://twitter.com/_The_WatchmanYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/thewatchmanreviewsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/thewatchman.com.au/Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. This movie review discusses everything that made Mike Flanagan's take on Stephen King's 'Doctor Sleep' a success, with fans and the creator. Something Stanley Kubrick, was never able (or likely wanted) to do.In 2013 Stephen King released the novel Doctor Sleep, a sequel to his classic 1977 novel, the Shining. In 1980 director Stanley Kubrick made the Shining into a film. However, Stephen King did not like it, especially some of the liberties that Kubrick took with the plot and characters. So, how the hell do you make a movie based on a novel that’s a sequel to another movie made over 40 years ago, also based on a novel when the author of said novels didn’t like the original film, which is now a cult classic, and keep everyone happy? Check out the #MovieReview of #DoctorSleep to find out how they turned it around.More reviews at: https://thewatchman.com.au/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thewatchmanreviewsTwitter: https://twitter.com/_The_WatchmanYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/thewatchmanreviewsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/thewatchman.com.au/Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. It really is time to give it up folks and if the only positive thing to come out of Terminator Dark Fate is that it finally buries the franchise then hasta la vista baby! Stick around if you want to listen to what I think could be the worst movie of 2019 in this movie review.6 Movies, only two of which are good, and an entirely forgettable TV series. Surely by now we are all Termied out? Who even put in the order for this one?Aside from a few little nuances—messing with timelines and a more plot holes than your grandfather’s underwear—Terminator Dark Fate is another case of badass technologically advanced killing machine playing cat and mouse with an ill equipped protagonist desperately trying to stay one step ahead.More reviews at: https://thewatchman.com.au/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thewatchmanreviewsTwitter: https://twitter.com/_The_WatchmanYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/thewatchmanreviewsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/thewatchman.com.au/Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Find out why #Joker can't work as a stand alone film in this movie review. They’re saying that Todd Phillip’s Joker, is not a Batman movie and a lot more people are saying not a comic book movie, but maybe it’s just redefining what a comic book movie needs to be?Let’s face it, good guys are boring, the most compelling element of nearly every film is the antagonist, and the Joker is one of the greatest villains of all time. The clown shoes seem get harder to fill with every iteration though. Even casting an actor as credible and delightfully unpredictable as Joaquin Phoenix had lots of people—including me, with the foul stench of Jared Leto’s hideous portrayal still steaming from the turd that was Suicide Squad wafting in front of my face—questioning whether it was necessary. It could be because Joker is really good.#JokerMovie #MovieReviewMore reviews at: https://thewatchman.com.au/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thewatchmanreviewsTwitter: https://twitter.com/_The_WatchmanYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/thewatchmanreviewsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/thewatchman.com.au/Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. People looking for the next version of—or comparing Amazon Prime series Carnival Row to—Game of Thrones, need to give it a rest.Carnival Row is an entirely different beast to Thrones and probably has more similarities to films like District 9, Bright and TV shows like Alien Nation than it does HBO’s incest riddled, sword and sorcery T n' A fest. Although you’ll still get a little bit of T n' A here if that’s what you’re looking for. This show is more like Sherlock Holmes with fairies and has themes that are far more focused on the state of our world right now than anything that went on over in Westeros.Check out the #MovieReview of #AmazonPrimeSeries #CarnivalRow for more.More reviews at: https://thewatchman.com.au/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thewatchmanreviewsTwitter: https://twitter.com/_The_WatchmanYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/thewatchmanreviewsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/thewatchman.com.au/Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Good Boys - bad movie!

The trailers for Good Boys were deceptive—they made this movie look like a great time but they’ve crammed all the best jokes into two minutes—and you really shouldn’t expect anything more from the movie. IT ends... eventually!

IT ends... eventually!

For this reviewer, IT Chapter 2 was easily the most anticipated film of 2019.Part one in 2017 was a pleasant surprise and an easy five out of five movie. Mostly thanks to some great casting, excellent creature design and brilliant direction from Andy Muschietti, and of course Stephen King’s best-selling story.People who remembered the original mini-series and thought that nobody could top Tim Curry’s great performance of Pennywise, had forgotten a couple of things:1. The mini series was a straight to TV production with some pretty average casting (Curry being the exception) 2. It’s been a long time since they probably saw it and realised that it wasn’t actually very good. There was a new clown in town in the form of Bill Skarsgard’s Pennywise, and the negative comments from any naysayers were put to rest as soon he lit up the screen with the new and improved version in 2017. The only disappointing thing about IT Chapter 1 was that we would have to wait a couple of years before we saw the Loser's Club come back and finish Pennywise off once and for all.More reviews at: https://thewatchman.com.au/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thewatchmanreviewsTwitter: https://twitter.com/_The_WatchmanYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/thewatchmanreviewsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/thewatchman.com.au/Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Quentin Tarantino pleases himself with Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. Could this be his most self-indulgent film yet? Check out the movie review to find out!Once Upon a Time In Hollywood is Tarantino’s billet doux (that’s French for love letter) to an era of film he clearly adores. It also might be statement about the industry’s current situation and where he fits within. Set in Hollywood in 1969—toward the end of the summer of love under the looming shadow of the Manson family murders—Once Upon a Time In Hollywood tells the story of Sharon Tate and Roman Polanski’s next door neighbour Rick Dalton. Rick’s a famous actor but his star is on the decline. His roles have moved from movies to TV and leading man to villain. Rick’s buddy Cliff Booth is an ex-green beret who works in Hollywood as a stunt man, mainly as Rick’s stunt double but spends more time these days as Rick’s driver and personal assistant. The film is about them trying to make their way around an industry that they are struggling to keep up with.
