Join us for another beautiful golden oldie hour! We'll be back next week with fresh ghosties and ghouls, but for now, enjoy this classic ep featuring some of our favorite vintage news stories ever and one very special horse. -- These weird vintage news stories are so out of this world you may never recover. You'll hear about ghosts making crosses from dried pasta, a horse named Clever Hans, a dog that can speak and tell you it wants cake, an ancient turtle who's addicted to pancakes, and the single most affecting news story I've ever read: The tale of the Fried Pickle Man. You'll also hear some spooky facts about Shadow People (sleep tight)! Just remember: Take some cucumbers, when quite green From the garden while unseen Soak them long in salt mush Add your spices, watch them rust For some days, let them lie Take them out, in slices fry That's a dish which one sings So it is, is fit for kings
Watchout, outlaws, or you'll be buried up in Boot Hill! What's that in the trees? A tall ghoul!? Cowboy ghosts are some of the scariest ones out there, I reckon. We'll hear about some rustlers 'n killers, then head over to France to learn about the Lutin (and how you can befriend them). Hint: leave a raisin out as a lil' treat.
This week, let's revisit a few of our favorite things: scary theme parks and scrying mirrors! Think we'll all be able to ride on Kingda Ka together this year? --- "It's kind of nice to think that you'll see a gorgeous scene or beloved deceased family member right when you're about to die, but also: what if that gorgeous scene is Kingda Ka, and that beloved person is Taz? Picture it. This plus some info about haunted scrying mirrors on today's all new episode!"
Let's revisit our old friends, the spectacular and thrilling Yōkai! And travel the world with us as we visit some haunted hotels (which we'll hopefully be able to do again IRL someday? maybe?).
