Three and a half years into my business, I was on my way home from a 2-week spiritual retreat with my family. At the time, my downline had 15,000+ distributors, and during the two weeks I was gone, we had 800+new distributors sign up. During that retreat, I was unplugged from all technology and as I started to integrate back into the “real world,” I realized I had no voicemails, no text messages, and no Facebook or Instagram messages. Network Marketing trainers, companies and leadership love talking about FINDING YOUR WHY. And not just any old why, but ‘having a why that makes you cry.’ These “whys” come in all different forms depending on the distributor's current life situation. Maybe it's a ‘why’ to be at home with your kids, or the ‘why’ to pay off your credit cards, the ‘why’ to go on a vacation, the ‘why’ to get out of debt, the ‘why’ for meaning in your life. When we initially talk about finding a why, it's a reason for doing this business, a reason for getting started in the first place. There is a big difference between believing you can do something and knowing without a doubt that you will do something. One of the biggest obstacles to building a large organization for new distributors (and even seasoned distributors) is understanding the value of what you have to offer. Understanding that the opportunity we have can change lives. Understanding that there are people who are looking for what you have to offer. Distributors are intimidated to approach people because they feel like they’re bothering them. They don’t want to continue to follow up because they feel they are pestering or pressuring. In order to build a team of leaders and start attracting other leaders, you have to position yourself in the eyes of others as a leader. When you’re out there recruiting, people have to see you as a leader from the start.
