Formed in 1934 as a platform for the discussion and debate of important business, government and social issues. It is known internationally as a top speaking forum for prominent business, academic, and government officials, who address members and their guests at the Club's 35 meeting season. With more than 3,500 members, the DEC is a forum for vital issues. The DEC claims to have hosted every U.S. President since Richard Nixon and is ranked among the top speaking platforms in the world. The DEC is one of the most valued podiums for CEO's in the world and one of the top five executive speaking forums in America.

The DEC hosted the 2023-2024 Detroit Red Wings at the MotorCity Casino Hotel on Wednesday, February 28. Ken Daniels and Mickey Redmond served as the Masters of Ceremonies for the 18th annual meeting.  In a lively roundtable discussion, members heard from Executive VP & General Manager Steve Yzerman and Head Coach Derek Lalonde as they shared their thoughts on the season. Members heard from President of Baseball Operations Scott Harris and Manager A.J. Hinch as they shared their thoughts on the season. A players-only roundtable with Spencer Torkelson, Jake Rogers, and Kerry Carpenter followed. The always-fun meeting concluded with audience questions and a raffle for Tiger memorabilia.
