Merry Christmas, Everyone! Just in time for the holiday season, 'Adult-ish' host Afiya A. is back with a new "Fifi After Dark," which features a topic that most think about this time of year: showing up and showing support. In this episode (recorded back on December 20), our favorite adult gets a little vulnerable while discussing the several events in her life that have been plaguing her health — both mentally and physically — and how the events have led her to re-evaluate the concept of showing up for someone. "How do you show up for a friend? How do you show support for a loved one?" It's amazing to show love to someone during a joyous occasion, but what does that look like when your favorite people are down and out? Listen on as our usual favorite clown tears it all down... with tears of her own. Tune in for these reflections on love, friendship, and the meaning of showing up and showing support for the ones we say we love and care for. What a time to be alive and what better way to return to the world than with a few boundaries? It's a part of adulthood when folks start to switch up on you, but when they start to treat you with little-to-no feedback OR tact, that's when it's time to start putting your foot down.In this new, return episode of 'Adult-ish,' host Vincent takes the lead to talk through the fine art of teaching people to treat you the way you want to be treated — like an adult. Recounting his own recent run-in with a friend, the ever-entertaining Vincent speaks through the steps he took to teach a friend how to approach him with their frustrations. No matter who you are, we know you were affected by this past week's Supreme Court ruling to overturn the 1973 case Roe v. Wade, which granted women the constitutional right to privacy of her body and made abortion legal. That's right, y'all -- America has officially decided to allow the states to minimize and overall restrict the rights of women to their own bodies. And all those white women who were scared the 'Handmaid's Tale' was going to come life, there you go! Family: a group of persons connected by blood, marriage, or other. This may be one definition of family, but what does it mean to you? In this episode of "Adult-ish" presents "Fifi After Dark," our solo host recounts an amazing tale of one man's journey to find the truth about his father and ultimately finding a family he never had. You'll want to listen to this story as it includes our favorite host and is the thing made of Hulu documentaries! Aside from an amazing tale of a man finding his family, our fave host takes a moment to evaluate what family means to her and comes to her own revelations about the family she was born into while opening her mind to creating the family she belongs to. As promised, here's yet another 2021 episode that missed its call time, but it's quite the doozy. In this episode of 'Adult-ish' presents 'Fifi After Dark,' our favorite host is lit like Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer as she drinks her fury and fever away as she works her way through her Corona-filled Christmas. Yes, our girl was hit by the Millennium Tour in time for the holidays and suffered with Omnicron during one of the most festive times of the year. While the 'Adult-ish' star is of the lucky few who did not succumb to the contagious virus' severe symptoms, she details how the meddlesome germs ruined her planned holiday and had her feeling all kinds of miserable — physically, mentally, and emotionally. Tune in, y'all, and her her talk it out. And don't worry, we've since sanitized all of the equipment. In this episode of "Adult-ish," host Afiya is joined by the lovely Vincent Bernard, who quickly gives a chat on generational divides before diving into two shows that were hitting the feels: "Insecure" and "Love Life." We owed you all an episode, didn't we? Well, here it is!We're back with the not-so-NEW episode we promised you of 'Adult-ish' featuring our fave co-host, Vincent Bernard, for a conversation around shredding & processing growth as an adult. While chatting about his academic plans in August (yeesh, we're behind), Vince takes a deeper dive into where he is in his life, his insecurities, and embracing the idea of "shedding." Much like abandoned crab shells, we humans go through periods of shedding and the duo speak to what the universe has been speaking to them in the Summer of 2021. While hitting a bowl and allowing their minds to flow, the duo mull over their desire to grow professionally and how they never really understood how important THIS aspect of life can be to adulting.Host: Afiya A.http://twitter.com/lajoliepoeta http://instagram.com/alja0214 Clubhouse @Aljaugustwww.aljathewriter.comCo-Host: Vincent Bernardhttps://www.facebook.com/vincent.bernard.543http://instagram.com/vincentbernard_83http://www.twitter.com/vincebernardAdult-ish Podcast http://twitter.com/adultishp0dcasthttp://instagram.com/adultishp0dcasthttp://facebook.com/adultishp0dcast
And the gang is back (sort of) for this pre-recorded episode of 'Adult-ish'! While not so timely, the episode talks to something that is all too relevant these days: cancel culture. Joined by co-host Vincent Bernard, the pair take on the latest person (at that time) to be hit with the cancel culture wave -- Da Baby. After making some disparaging comments during a concert, the rapper came under fire by many, including members and allies of the LGBTQIA community. Was it warranted? Was the apology sincere? Will he remained cancel? Though we already know the answer to several of those questions, listen on as the duo take on cancel culture and discuss whether or not a person every really remains "canceled." A recent Instagram post by multi-hyphenate Amanda Seales triggered the topic for this NEW episode of "Adult-ish": the difference between "nice" and "kind" and host Afiya takes time to evaluate this concept among the adage, "nice guys finish last." In tapping into the overall difference between being a "nice" guy and a "kind" human being, Afiya takes a step further to discuss, how true this cliché is. Are nice guys really finishing last... or is it something much deeper than what's on the surface? With booze in her system from the night before and the morning of, the podcaster rips into the "nice men" who call themselves nice, while really being a fuckboy in a kind man's clothing. Yup, she went there and chose violence.Listen on as she breaks down the nuances of being nice, kind, and a man assuming that being nice should grant him access to panties that don't want quiver for his grubby paws. And we're back... sort of! In this long-awaited (and slightly outdated) episode of "Adult-ish", host Afiya takes the wheel for a FAD (Fifi After Dark) apologizing for the impromptu hiatus brought on burgeoning work schedules, tech malfunctions, and people just being busy ass adults. Thankfully, Afiya was able to have some kind of conversation about herself regarding travel weary queries and all the bugs and kinks that keep most folk (like herself) from venturing out into the unknown... as she slurps her liquor-filled libations. Do you ever feel a way when you re-watch one of your favorite films as an adult? While we know 'Adult-ish' host Afiya loves to tear into Disney films with her adult lenses, it's Mr. Vincent Bernard who has something to say about one of his favorite features. In this fun episode of 'Adult-ish,' the pair take on several films from their past including 'To Wong Foo: Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar,' and how the film reduced sexual assault to comedic plot as well as their personal favorite, 'Bram Stoker's Dracula.' The two really take a deeper dive into moments of the film that spoke to assault, rape, and sexuality on levels that weren't really there yet as younger folks. While we laughed and loved as children, as adults, the twosome sit back and take a harder look at these themes and how they expressed themselves. And yes, the two were slightly inebriated.
