You didn't think we'd leave you hanging on Halloween, did you?
It says 195, but it's actually our 200th episode. And our last one. We answer your questions and wave goodbye. Thank you for all the love and support throughout the years. Party on!
The final installment of End Times-Friend Times and we get personal with our friends from Jukebox Zeroes. We discuss two albums that influenced us, whether that be musically, aesthetically, or inspirationally. The range is big; from new wave to classic rock to electronica to mall goth to indie. Lilz and Pat add extra depth given the fact that they are actual musicians and can speak to how their albums influenced their sounds. Jokes and stories are told and we all get to know each other a bit more. Get all the best bad album reviews from Jukebox Zeroes! Want to support your favorite beer drinkin’ babes? In 1998, Dee Snider made a horror movie. We bring our pals John and Lloyd on from the Pint on to tell you why he shouldn't have. We give some deets on his inspiration and how it got made. Despite our appreciation for the Twisted Sister lead man, our gripes run far and deep. Check out Pint O'Comics here! Want to support your favorite beer drinkin’ babes? We aren't a political podcast, except maybe today. We bring on our pal David from Blame Your Brother podcast to discuss protest songs that really struck some chords with us. Some are beloved and others might be a surprise to even hear they're songs of protest. Get ready for a lot of talk about the disenfranchised, racism, sexism, and subscribing to a little bit of empathy. Check out Blame Your Brother Podcast!! This week we have an extra long episode, talking about an extra long album, with an extra special guest! We're going through the recent release of Metallica's Blacklist with our dear friend Heather from Make It Stop! An album of way too many covers, we pick the ones we liked the best or really needed to rant about. Throughout this journey we discovered some drunk dad karaoke night, a big box of Nilla wafers, the precipice of insufferability, and that fact that nothing really does matter. We also picked out the artists that get a blue ribbon for understanding the assignment. Wild times had by all. Listen to Make It Stop! Do it now! Want to support your favorite beer drinkin’ babes? Some may see the last few decades of Bowie's life as all over the place, and they wouldn't be wrong. After getting himself out of his cocaine-induced psychosis, he took a look at his life and decided to try whatever he wanted, creatively. By the end of his life, David Bowie would end up with a wonderful family and amazing legacy- one that has left him as one of the most unique and mysterious artists to have ever graced this planet. The 70's were a monumental time for David Bowie, it would be the years where he created some of his most iconic music and personalities. Unfortunately, those years also included a horrific drug addiction and a loss of mental stability. It may have just been one decade, but this would shape his legacy and turn him into the icon the world knows him as. Want to support your favorite beer drinkin’ babes? David Bowie - the man, the myth the legend. We go into another epic story about one of music's most iconic artists of all time. Many see Bowie as an alien from another place and time, but he is in fact mortal and has just an impressive biography to go along with his fabricated tales. Here we cover the beginning years, his mischievous childhood days, into young adulthood and how he finally found his footing in rock n' roll. 16zwDID0634xieLSTZ00 Want to support your favorite beer drinkin’ babes? In the final episode on our Rush series, we discuss their heavy use of synths in the 80s, the back to basics of the 90s, and the many highs and lows that accompanied the boys during the last half of their career. Upon learning the tragic end of this epic rock band, we get a little personal and emotional with our own feelings and stories. Want to support your favorite beer drinkin’ babes? In this second installment, we cover Rush when they get real popular. Over several albums they put out bangers that the world could not deny and they saw themselves skyrocket to fame. While Neil braced himself for that impact, Alex and Geddy were thrown off by the throngs of loving fans. And despite the nay-sayers (and many did say nay), the boys refused to back away from their creative desire to write 20 minute opuses. In fact, they tripled down. Rush is one of the most polarizing bands out there- you either love 'em or hate 'em. We at Rock Candy are firmly placed in the former camp and are ready to defend that opinion by sharing their epic tale here. In this first part, we go through the childhoods of Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart, and discuss how they came together and the beginnings of their rock journey. Dio was one of the greatest vocalists, not just in metal, but of all time. To look upon him you wouldn't think he held the power he did, but the minute he opened his mouth, everyone was proven wrong. He was a true work horse, starting and joining many a band throughout his lifetime. Never one to compromise, Dio stood true to his creative juices and came up with some of the best fantasy metal the world has ever heard. We tell his story, from his band geek youth, through the years he took to find his footing in the music biz, to the determined spirit that he held fast to at the end of tragically short life. It's time to tell the tale of the originator of rock n' roll. Without this woman, music as we know it today would not exist. And even though she holds these high accolades, Sister Rosetta Tharpe still rarely gets her due. This woman was a work horse, dedicated to the music she was crafting. She started off moving the congregation at church, but would soon bring that to the stage. The people fell in love with her energetic but sweet performance style and many children saw her play guitar and wanted those skills. This is the story of the birth of rock n' roll. This episode is not for the Misfits fans out there. We take a long time to look at the story of this cult classic horror/punk band and we didn't come up with a lot of proud moments for these dudes. For what it's worth, this band was only active for about 6 years and didn't even gain popularity until after their breakup. And yet, they are still talked about today. Though usually for the wrong reasons. Listeners may agree with our sentiments or find we're totally out of bounds, but either way, the tale is an adventure.
