Tres Cuentos is a bilingual literary podcast dedicated to Latin America's narratives. Each episode is in Spanish and English. The podcast narrates a piece of literature and later reflects on the author, culture, or history behind the story. Our goal is to make our literature accessible.

A greedy man dares to move into a house whose owners have passed away. Soon after he starts hearing and later seeing strange things. In the afterword, we explore the meaning that dogs have in the Aztec and Maya culture. 
Después de la repentina muerte de los dueños de una casa, un hombre se muda a ella con su familia. Poco después comenzará a experimentar cosas extrañas que revelaran envidias y malas energías. En el epílogo, exploramos un poco más acerca del significado que los perros tienen en las culturas Azteca y Maya.
A woman driven by her curiosity wants to know what her dogs see at night. In the comments, we explore the beliefs in purgatory, in the souls that come to ask for help or cause harm. We finalize with a story about what happens when you rub your eyes with the dog's eye buggers.
Una mujer muy curiosa querrá saber lo que los perros ven en la noche cuando salen a ladrar y para su sorpresa dicha curiosidad la meterá en problemas con el más allá. En el epílogo exploramos la creencia gallega sobre el purgatorio y cómo algunas almas se manifiestan para pedir ayuda o causar mal. Finalizamos con un cuento sobre un niño que también quiso saber sobre lo que los perros ven en la noche.
Two sisters that never got along will take their rivalry to the afterlife. In the afterword, we continue exploring more about the hereafter. Our last story is about a woman who gets the fright of her life after visiting a rural school. 
Una joven que jamás se llevo bien con su hermana muerta, se la encontrará en misa. En el epílogo continuamos explorando otras historias sobre el purgatorio. Finalizamos con un cuento más sobre una mujer que aprenderá una lección impartida por los del más allá, al visitar una vieja escuela.
Once, the people had peace and prosperity—however, their fate changed when the kind-hearted god Tezcatlipoca left them. In despair, the king turns for help to Mictlantecuhtli, the underworld lord. It won’t turn out well in the afterword how this story is related to the later Aztec Empire.
Un pueblo ha perdido su guía espiritual. Después de su partida la vida ya no es la misma. Desesperado el rey decide pedir ayuda al señor del inframundo, Mictlantecuhtli, quien les ayudará, pero a un precio muy alto. En el epílogo hablamos de cómo una rama de los antiguos de este pueblo más tarde se convirtió en el gran Imperio Azteca.
Two brothers will fight over the love of Pachamama. After she chooses Pachacamac, his brother Wakon unleashes his fury over nature. In time Wakon will find the opportunity to avenge his bitterness. In the afterword, we talk more about who were the two male deities that were later adopted by other South American cultures.
La rivalidad entre dos hermanos por el amor de Pachamama, llevará a que el perdedor desate su furia y luego una terrible venganza sobre la familia. En el epílogo exploramos otras historias contadas acerca de estas dos deidades.
IxChel, the moon goddess of the Maya, will get caught in the middle of a "love triangle," the gossip of Chac, the rain god, and her grandfather's mistakes. In the afterword, we explore more about the gods and the goddess in the story. We also present another version of IxChel's story and why she leaves away from the sun.
 Ixchel, la diosa maya de la luna se verá en medio de un triángulo amoroso, los chismes del dios de las tormentas y los errores de su abuelo. En el epílogo hablamos un poco más sobre los dioses mayas y presentamos otra versión de la historia de la diosa de la luna y por qué ella siempre le huye al sol.
In this version of the weeping woman, a greedy man meets the cold and vengeful embrace of a mysterious lady. In the afterword, we explore the origins of this woman, and we finalize with one more story by the New Mexican storyteller Angel Vigil.
 Un mal hombre conocerá con el vengativo abrazo de la Llorona. En el epílogo exploramos las raíces indígenas y europeas de dicho fantasma. Finalizamos el programa con un cuento más acerca de la Llorona.
In hopes of getting his father to quit drinking, a son will try to frighten his father. But the man will not forgive that. In the comments, we talk more about this ghost that resembles a dog. We finalize with another story about El Cadejo.
 Un joven tratará de darle una lección a su padre para que deje de tomar alcohol. Sin embargo, su padre no olvidara la afrenta y lo maldecirá para siempre. Luego hablamos sobre la creencia en esta inusual criatura. Finalizamos con un cuento más sobre el Cadejo que nos llega desde Guatemala.  
An Argentinean Cowboy (Gaucho) will become obsessed with weaving the most beautiful poncho. But this will lead him to neglect his family and friends, and a curse will befall him. In the afterword, we talk about the Gauchos, Cowboys, and Vaqueros, and we end we a poem by Larry Thompson dedicated to El Charro Negro.
 Un gaucho argentino muy talentoso en el arte de tejer ponchos se obsesionará tejiendo el poncho más bonito. Dicha obsesión lo llevara a encontrar una inmortalidad inesperada. En el epílogo hablamos sobre los Gauchos, los Cowboys y los Vaqueros. Finalizamos con un poema dedicado al Charro Negro.
 Esta leyenda precolombina nos cuenta sobre un rey Zapoteca que desea mantener la independencia de su nación, pero sus vecinos los Aztecas tienen otros planes. En el epílogo contamos otra versión de la misma leyenda que muestra las intrigas y conspiraciones de los Aztecas y Zapotecas.
This historical legend tells us that a Zapotec king wants to keep his nation's independence, but his neighbors, the Aztecs, have other plans. In the afterword, we will retell another version of the story that shows in detail the conspiracies and political schemes played by the Zapotecs and Aztecs.
