One of the most satisfying feelings is being fulfilled by the work that you do and having the great job that you’re doing being noticed by others. While we often only think of the doctoral experience as a series of courses and writing (seemingly) neverending #dissertations, it is also an evaluative process similar to what we experience in the #jobmarket. In either scenario, the #goal is to not only be viewed as competent to fulfill the role (#doctoralstudent, #associateprofessor, lead #practitioner) but also as having earned the respect of your #supervisor and #colleagues as well as a possible #promotion and/or bump in #salary. Check out this month’s episode, where Dr. Poole & Dr. Bell honor the #legacy of #KobeBryant and discuss all things #MambaMentality when it comes to #evaluations, #performance, & #promotions.

Additionally, 38% of masters students and 36% of doctoral students #worry about their ability to meet their monthly #expenses. Considering our country’s current #studentloan #debt crisis, looming #recession and battle for affordable #healthcare, it is unsurprising that #graduate #students are eager to learn about #debt #management, #budgeting and #saving, #investing, #planning #retirement, and other aspects of #personal #finance. Tune in as Dr. Poole and Dr. Bell discuss their personal finance journeys and #advice they would give to Ebonies wanting to up the ante on personal finance!

As #WomenofColor #navigating #HigherEducation and #professional spaces, it is so easy to become engrossed in the humdrum of checking off our to-do-lists and bucket lists, without taking a moment to come up for air to pat ourselves, friends and loved ones on the backs for not only #surviving, but #thriving. We do not have to wait until we have reached our #elephant-sized goals to be #proud of ourselves, as there is #power in our wins, both “big” or “small”. As we make it a habit to #celebrate our #successes, we gain #momentum, #confidence, and #fulfillment, which permeates into our daily lives and creates a cyclical effect. Tune in as Dr. Poole and Dr. Bell discuss why celebrating our wins is essential!
One of the most valuable experiences as a #doctoralstudent is getting to formulate #research and ideas with my #peers and #cohort members. However, putting yourself out there isn’t always easy, and getting those #rejection emails were also hard. Join Dr. Poole and Dr. Bell for an in depth discussion of #conference proposal and #research journal submission process and the ways you can learn from both positive and negative experiences in the meantime. No matter where you are along your #graduate or #postgraduate journey in #highereducation, the beginning of the #academic term can prove to be a whirlwind as #students, #faculty and #practitioners seek to undertake what is necessary for a #successful year.
